Attack of the Dirty Gym Socks in a 510

My previous e-cig was a Health E-cig which had a lot of vapor but no throat hit, tasted like Girl Scout Thin Mints (not a bad flavor) but certainly didn't do my nic habit. Had no idea what strength was in the cartridges.
So I ordered some flavors while I waited on one of the 510s to come in the mail. I got Red Bull flavor and unflavored.
The Red Bull smelled like redbull and dirty gym socks in the bottle! vaping it also tastes a great deal like gym socks but not redbull, maybe grape.
The 510 was such a strong throat hit... I said "oh this is what everyone means by throat hit", but it's really too much. Makes my eyes water, and seems like you're inhaling the cherry off of an unfiltered cigarette. Burns all the way down!
So, my question is - firstly- is the throat hit related to the nic level? or is it my atomizer?
Once I do get flavors that suit me, I hope I am able to get the dirty gym sock out of there. I have heard that the 510 takes a couple days to break in and get primer off and such, but I am fairly sure the gym sock is coming from the redbull I bought since it smells that way already.
Second question - Would the break in period be causing a strong almost intolerable throat hit?

Yes, the break in period causes a scorching, almost intolerable throat blast because of the primer fluid. Take the atty by the battery end and blow it out into a paper towel; I did this on my second 510 atty, and there was NO throat massacre like the first. Wish I'd known about it earlier lol

I met a new vaper with a 510 the other deay- he was vaping the poly fill in his carts- the first thing you should do is switch fill to Lypton Pyramid Teabags- makes a huge differance


PTB- Make it a sticky allready- how many will quit vaping because of the horible cart filler that dos'nt work worth crap?

Over and over and ov er- I see new people asking the same questions- burnt taste ? bad tatse?

Another thing I can reccomend is wash your atty. I, personally, used just hot watter in a small glass. Dropped in the atty, shook it around for a minute or so, changed the water (hot), swooshed again, and rinsed in hot water. I guess there is some sort of primer that is on the atty when manufactured/shipped. The trick is to remove that primer.

Now, if you search around, other users are using alcohol, and other cleaners. Dunno, never tried anything other than water.

My 510 tasted like a bag of doo doo when I first got it....BUT, even with the fibers, there was a 1000% improvment in flavor after washing! I ALMOST through out both of my 510s because of this taste.....I just didnt know.

I was unsure about washing or submerging the atty in anything, aren't there electrical wires and things inside? I realize the eliquid goes thru it but not sure if something sealed off (water tight??) might get damaged? Gotta leave it dry overnight or something afterwards?

About all you heard so far really isn't true, other than the 510 has great throat hit. It does have relatively dry vapor, so it does tend to burn the throat. And for some people, that's a good thing. You might want to give the 510 to someone who's looking for a vape close to a real cig, and get a heavy vapor machine for the flavors you prefer.

My 510 atty's work well right out of the box. I started using the straw mod which helps juice flow to the atty.

I have to soak my atty's in Coke before the menthol taste comes out. Perhaps try that on the gym socks.

Holey Moley! Just blowing it out made a world of difference! I'd given it up for 2 days prior to this thinking it was just a crappy flavor or strength. It's still more like grape than redbull but no horrible pain from vaping it now. Thank you all so much for the advice on here! I'll be sure and blow out those other 510s when they arrive before using!

I've been all kinds of curious about this atty primer taste... mainly cause I'm a curious person. Could it possibly taste worse then a traditional cigarette? Cause man, I hate non-menthol.

Anyhow though, just a couple more days! Should have spent more and bought a starter kit from not China.

EDIT: I will say that this waiting has given me a lot of time to become active here and get very educated about what I'm getting into. So maybe it will keep me from breaking stuff.

You can find Lipton pyramid tea bags at most stores I believe (got mine at Ralphs). With the PTB plug you won't flood your atty, and you'll get great pulls and use up all the juice, instead of just the top part. Hope this helps

The level of nastiness of the shipping fluid varies greatly from not detectable to way worse than any cigarette I've smoked. Blowing it out as MHR says is best. If that fails I use 151 vodka then blow it out.

Where did you get your red bull flavor from? I wanted to get some, Probably going to get it from TW since I didnt see it on NH... anyway I hope it doesnt really taste like dirty gym socks, i love red bull.

Also on the tea bag thing... I'm planning on just going straight to dripping. Is there any advantage to using the tea bag cart method over dripping or is it just sort of operator preference? If its preference, I think im going to just drip the atty with no cart filler.

I've searched all thru my bookmarks (I have tons now) for eliquid and I can't find the exact site I got the redbull from. It was American though, and can say it was not TW. Kinda looks home-made. I think maybe they mixed a tobacco flavor to make it or something. Today after I blew out the atty, it was fine, more grape than redbull to me though. I'm anxiously awaiting my clove flavor and extra 510s. Mixed up my own flavors a little too, but I'm definetely a newbie with that! LOL

im pretty sure totally wicked juices have the totally wicked label on them and their 30ml bottles come with a dropper, so its probably not from there.

This. Seriously. I can't tell you how big an improvement this is. IMO, this is necessary to have a fully-functional 510, if you plan on continuing to use cartridges. The 3 other folks around here who started vaping the 510 at the same time I did, agree 100%.

I'm beginning to think its definetely the original filler burning. Because, first day when I blew out the atty like suggested it was wonderful for one vaping session, then went right back to being horrible burnt again. I'm going to the store for the PTBs but being in a small town, I have little faith that our store will carry them. And in that case, it's off on an adventure to a bigger town with better selection!
I've had a shakey start to the vaping with 510 because so many times it's tasted burnt and hurt my lungs/throat, and each time I've put it down for a few days. I'll keep trying all the suggestions and post the results here.

over, and over, and over I have to tell newbs to use PTB- damn the factory should just put it in the box with the 510.

In fact it should be told to everyone buying an e cig. Suppliers - I'm talking to you!
