This may be a fault of my device but

The LED light is not a sign that the device is firing. If i push it in so the light is on it does fire. If i push it in harder the device does fire. This leads me to believe the light and firing are two separate funtions within the device. If you find your itaste does not fire when the light is on just push the button in harder...This has been my experience, although maybe i have just got a faulty one.

Why push harder if it fires when you push it in just enough for the light to come on?

My button is a bit stiff, but I can usually tell when I've pressed it enough to fire. It sounds like *maybe* your button is slightly wonky, perhaps.
