I had the same detonator concern with an x-ray machine at a courthouse. No problem there. All depends on the oprator and how much they know....and how nervous you appear. ;)

I posted this pic of real detonators awhile back...

Sorry you experienced that.

They are specifically allowed by the TSA and many MANY travelers have reported no problems (myself included) - and my friend (who I started along the vaping path) travels with his literally every day.

That said - the whole system is so flippin inconsistent it's annoying beyond description.

Point being: Your one datapoint is only a single example of hundreds, maybe thousands, of checkpoints that get passed with nary a raised eyebrow.

But sorry to hear you experienced that!

I had a similar experience returning from Chicago. They wound up testing my backpack for explosives. Utter silliness, but better safe than sorry.

That being said, TSA also thought that my usb hub looked like a detonator on my flight back from Florida a month earlier and they tested my backpack for explosives that time as well.

I'm figuring it's best just not to have things with wires/cables hanging out in my carry on during any future flights. While it was inconvenient both times, I'd still rather they checked then let things go through that they have any question on. (I still think the entire system needs work, but at least it shows that they are paying some attention)

Embarrassing - yes, but in different way. Out of 2 dozens TSA people nobody new what USB was ( that little suspiciously looking plug on the cable end). I'm glad they didn't tear my laptop apart  I also carry 2 30 ml bottles of juice in my backpack that have never raised any concern - could be explosives

I would think having you pv and PCC out so you could put it in the tray would be the fastest i could see how the pv could look like a blasting cap and the pcc could look like some sort of bomb or a way to set off a blasting cap. The box we have at work for electric det. Is way bigger but kinda the same
