I have always used denture tablets (not the kind with all the 'extra' dental stuff they add to it). I put a half a tablet in a glass of very, very hot water and soak my attys for about an hour or so, depending on how dirty they are. I then rinse, blow, rinse, blow really good, under hot, hot water and then let them sit for a few days to dry. I've been reading about ppl using one of those sonic jewelry cleaners, but haven't YET got one to try out...notice I said YET???? (OCD that I am, I prolly will tho)

Gil, when I take off attys to be cleaned...I drop'em either in a bottle with ~1" of iso or 100 proof + and let them soak overnight. Sometimes for days if they're really bad. Then I remove'em, rinse really well with hot tap water, and then steam clean'em for 30-60 seconds each. They (so far) have ALL came out really close to being as good as they were, when they were new imho... This is with 306's, and 1 HH 357. I wouldn't leave a black atty in the iso overnight, or they may end up looking like crap...

I use iso alcohol exclusively for cleaning my atties. I use 93% solution because its the strongest I can find around here. I soak them overnight, rinse well in hot water, blow them out and let dry and they're good for next time.
Mike, I only use black 510 attys and admittedly the alcohol does take a toll on the paint but only the first 1/8th inch or so above the threads of the atty seems to flake loose. Must be related to the heat. This area is hidden in the well anyway, so who cares? Certainly none of the loggers I hang out with care about it, so I guess I wouldn't know, would I?:)
One additional factor is that the paint on the atty, when taken directly out of the alcohol is indeed soft--if you're extracting it with a tweezers, you'll scratch it if not careful.

No, I have never gotten my hands on one of those sonic cleaners.
I'm certainly with ya on the "gettin old" thing, though.
I find its kinda progressive--that is, I think about it alot and when I space something out, I think its undoubtedly because I'm loosing my marbles. Even though it may be something I might have spaced out when I was 30, I'm pretty sure its caused by some form of early dementia cuz I'm an old fart now. I hate that.

these iso cleaning methods sound good but...
I put iso in a shot glass, cover with plastic wrap and rubber bands. then shake, shake, shake the atty once every few hours for a day or to. make sure its hitting the sides of the glass. then let dry and blow out with VG (i don't like the idea of exposing atties to water as that has killed some of mine in the past).

First, I rinse & blow them with tap water. Then, they get a bath in isopropyl alcohol in one tank of my ultrasonic cleaner. Then I blow them out really well, then clean in distilled water in the other tank of the ultrasonic.
Seems to work very well.
My stainless eGo atties get a little beat up in the process but it's just a clearcoat so it's almost impossible to notice.

Thanks,
Lee

The part of Canada that doesn't get enuf Snow :(
99% iso alcohol has done me very well. I keep a canning jar of it that I drop dirty attys in leave over night then I use a syringe to blow alc thru them blow them out and let them sit for an hour or so ready to go. I usually find I get a couple weeks out of 3-4 ounces of alc before it gets too dirty.

I use a .....about a 4 oz. snap-on cover tupperware container that provides a similar level of secure vapor containment. I use my iso several times and it'll last for weeks without evaporating in this container. I only mention it cuz its probably less of a hassle for you than the plastic wrap.

easier to shake a shot glass. I shake the hell out of it.

I've used ultrasonic, vodka, IPA (Isopropyl alcohol), hot water, denture tabs, mouthwash and vinegar.

Since I buy the bulk attys from Vaporkings, I find the best method is to toss them in the trash once a week and grab a fresh one.

See, I'm not only old, I'm lazy too :)

Well......I hate to agree with you, but I get months out of Vaporkings attys. A little alcohol, a tupperware container or a shot glass or a mason jar and in the morning its near new. Of course, throwing them in the trash right away has its merits as well.:)
