hey guys,
since I got my grand sl LP a few months ago the firing button has never been overly smooth, but it's just gotten stickier and stickier to the point where it's autofiring. I don't work in a trade so my hands are always clean when I use it, and it always has a button cover from Fred on it.
I've tried cleaning it with a little isopropyl alcohol, but no luck.

any protips for me?

I would PM Rob about it to see if he can give you some long distance advice. There was a bunch sold that seem to have an issue with the button sticking/rubbing, so you might have one of those, and Rob can tell you what to file and where to correct the problem. I recall that it's not a biggie thing to correct.

If the button is getting worse over time its dirty . You need to flush it really good with hot water and push the button while your flushing it . If this doesn't work you can remove the button and check for burs on the the channel the button passes through . It can be cleaned up with a file or roll some sand paper in reverse to make a tube and clean it up with the sand paper . If your not comfortable doing this send it in we can take care of it

Had that problem with my first Reo when I received it used (a Mini 2.1). Twas the fire buttons locking pin itself was damaged and dragging in the slot it travels in. Ground off the pin, needle file fixed the slot, end of problem. I don't need to lock any of my metal Reos off, ever, so prefer not to have locking fire buttons on any of them. But I have extra new buttons on hand to bring those Reos back to factory issue if I ever sell any of them.

thanks guys! i cleaned the absolute hell out of my reo with alcohol and detergent and it's like new now. the locking pin on the button seems to have been ground down quite a bit, compared to the button in my rebuild kit, but it still works. i sanded the inside of the button slot down a littl ebit and it's much looser now, although still seems to be dragging slightly if the button is pushed with pressure on anywhere except the centre. still, it's WAY better now. thanks heaps!

I had this problem crop up a few weeks ago... I just dripped three or four drops of rubbing alcohol into the assembly from above, through the "button hole," and with the battery removed, pressed the button like a madman playing space invaders for a minute or two. Cleaned it up nicely! No more physical resistance or stickiness of the button springing back up. I had already recently given it a hot water bath, I think it just needed that little bit of elbow grease with a solvent to really clean up the mechanism. There was probably some juice that got in there at some point and acted as a crud magnet.
