Hi all, I keep reading that the difference between an atty and a carto is that an atty is two pieces and a carto is one.
I am new and have only used what came with my Ego-T. It has the battery, an atty and a tank cart.
People here have suggested I replace the atty with either a Boge 2.0 carto or a EMDCC.
Now when I look at pics of those, they look just like atty's to me!
And if I'm not mistaken they don't even come with a mouthpiece. Which would have to be bought separately?
So how would these be replacing 2 parts?
What is the purpose and benefit of a carto over an atty?
Thanks for your help in advance.

If you unscrew the tank atty, that is just take it down to the battery portion, you will see a female 510 threading. Any 510 (male) carto or atty for that matter, will fit this threading. By attaching the carto directly to the battery you will have a two-piece system. If the looks of it is strange to you, one can buy a "skirt" that helps smooth out the transition from the carto to the battery. The skirt looks a lot like the tank atty.

A cartomizer has filler material inside the tube. You saturate the filler (lowest juice capacity is right around 1ml) and it wicks to the coil as you vaporize the juice.

An atomizer generally has a small wick under a mesh-covered bridge. You can only drip 5 drops of juice or so before flooding an atomizer. It used to be that atomizers were primarily used with cartridges which held about half a ml of juice in some sort of filler material that made contact with the bridge and wicked down to the atomizer.

Things have changed a lot, basically, and with eGo-T and eGo-C equipment, the setup is quite a bit different than the old days while remaining the same. Basically, juice capacity in the cartridge is better now than it used to be.

Use what you like to use.

IMO, cartos are better than attys for a few reasons. Cartos are cheaper, a 5-pack of cartos cost about the same as 1 atty, and cartos can be reused even though they are typically considered a one time use item. Cartos are less messy than attys, you never have to clean them (like boiling attys) and you'll never unscrew a carto and find your PV and hands covered in e juice. Cartos are more convenient, fill a few to carry with you and you won't need to carry a bottle of juice around with you. Get yourself a tank for your cartos and you can go about a day without refilling. Dripping with an atty is nice, but darn near impossible to do while driving.

Thanks for the replies. If I'm understanding the responses, the Ego-T set-up is a little different than the standard PV, which may be why I'm confused.
Right now I have a tank cart that holds the liquid and lets it drip onto the atty.
If I were to replace the atty and tank cart with a carto and mouthpiece, the liquid would be held within the carto.
OK so now I see where the liquid is held in 2 different places, however, I still don't see the benefit of one over the other?
Unless it is simply cost?

It is cost and the amount of juice you can hold in the carto. Atty's cost about $10 plus to replace, carto's are cheaper. Seems like most carto's hold about 1 1/2-2ml of juice. Your tank probably holds 1 ml. If this is something you just want to try, but aren't real sure, watch the classifieds for someone selling them even cheaper than an online outlet would. I bought Boge 1.5 ohm carto's when we first started out vaping on the ego-t. Glad I did. But it was nice to go back to the atty. Good Luck!

Cost and convenience. I have an ego 650mah batt (x2) and I use a DCT setup on them. It is convenient as I do not have to constantly refill them and they stay wet most of the time, although occasionally I have to take a couple of dry pulls (pulling without activating the battery) to help the filler saturate a little. Last pretty much all day on 1 tank, but since I alternate between 2 flavors (i have 2 DCT's), I swap them out throughout the day, they last longer. Each carto on their own last me approx 7-10 days and sometimes longer, but when alternating they last 2 weeks +/-. But everyone has their preference and chances are you will have to experiment to find yours.
