Finally received my ultimate automatic kit today! (21 days lost with USPS) in a much beaten up and abused package with a broken passthrough! luckily both battery's seem to work but they cut out after only 2 seconds, is this normal auto battery cutoff time? they are the standard size multi logo battery's, and the V4L site doesn't say what the cutoff time is

The multi-logo batteries have a 5 second cutoff.

Is the PT physically "broken" or just does not work?

Well if your package was lost for twenty days or so are you sure the batteries are charged up? They send them out charged about 80% but since they were lost in the mail for so long who knows how much juice they had left when they got to you? I would suggest charging them over night and trying again.

Yes they charged for 6 hours before I tried them, according to the charger they were fully charged in 2hrs

How quickly does the battery life "leak" out?

If I'm not mistaken, the new multi-logo batteries should have a 10 second cutoff. If you ordered an Ultimate kit, it should have come with the new batteries. Just PM Mark and let him know, he'll take care of you (don't forget to mention the dead pass-thru too).

If you ordered the super sale kit, it would have been the older 5 second cutoff. Hope that helps!

The new batteries are all 13 sec, I believe.

I've made a jig that makes disassembling and reassembling "almost" easy.

I threaded (tapped) a piece of angle steel to match and then welded a t-bar on the back of it. Thread the battery in, clamp in a padded vice (not too tight or you'll deform the casing!), then I use a little ball pean to tap it out.

I put it back together in the same rig using the 10 ton press.

That said, the only way I've found into the guts of the switch is destructively. Using a hot wire knife, I've cut them apart, fixed, then epoxied them back together (to fill in the material the hot wire knife takes out), but I've only done it twice and I wouldn't recommend it.

As embarassing as it is, I bought it for one little job like 20 years ago or something. Because I only needed it for one job, I bought it from HarborFreight. You'd be amazed at how cheap a press really is. Here's a current 12-ton: - Harbor Freight Tools - Quality Tools at the Lowest Prices Once I had it, I just seemed to find a use for it a few times a week. It's great for torture too. Errr - was that my out-loud-voice again? Sigh.

There's just nothing to go wrong with them. I've replaced the hydraulic jack on mine a few times. It's been 6-50 Ton at different times in its life. A new jack is like $15 from an auto parts store. I even bent the frame a bit with the 50 ton, and had to "convince it" back into shape. ;)
