They would both use the same charger. IMR cells have a much higher discharge rating. The only question is, do you need that discharge rating. What mod are you going to use this on, and what atty/carto are you going to use?

Looking hard at a sabertouch 5 volt high powered unit with dual coils.

What have you got already? The charger you have for Li-On's could well be good, you just need to check the batts the first couple of times with a meter. Not every time. From lighthound:

These IMR cells have much lower internal resistance than regular LiIon 3.7V cells and they may end up with a higher ending voltage when charged in certain chargers ( especially older version WF-139 charger ). Please check the voltage of them right out of the charger to see if they are above 4.20V when fully charged with your charger. Overcharging above 4.25V may shorten life/cycles. Above 4.50V may even pop them or making them leak. DO NOT use the charger if it seems to overcharge IMR cells.

Thanks Druid. I have actually eyeballed that one and was kinda leaning towards it but was hoping that someone would confirm that it's a good charger. Also looked at the Pila but it states all kinds of batts but not the 16340. Don't know if that is an oversight or if it just doesn't accept them. I guess I can get 2 wf-188's for the price of a pila.

Would a charger that goes into trickle charge mode overcharge an IMR?

Run a IMR cell for sure then. Stick with AW brand for batts. The WF188 is a good charger. Also the TrustFire TR003 P4 is a good charger. I use the latter one and it stops the charge at 4.2V on the dot on my IMR cells and you don't have to worry about leaving the batts on the charger overnight either, it shuts off the charge when they are done.

It's not. The WF-188 gets some rather scathing comments from the flashlight folks. For 3.7V charging the older and cheaper TR-001 actually works better as it is more consistent with it's termination voltage.

None of the UF's actually follow the proper CC/CV Li-Ion charging protocols. A little extra lip lipstick on the newer ones doesn't mean they treat your cells any better. If you truly need 'better' look elsewhere.

And the best deal in a dual volt, 2 power setting, well regarded CC/CV charger.

I always find it interesting how the fancy battery elitists, who thumb their noses at UltraFire batteries use UltraFire chargers.

Others have said IMR's are best on the Saber, but kinda hate babysitting batts to keep from overcharging. For 16340's could either or both of you recommend a good quality charger?

There is no babysitting to be done to keep them from overcharging, typical 'urban myths' that just keep getting repeated ad nauseam. I have no problems charging my IMR26650s in an old TR-001 charger and some cheap no name 16340 charger, they charge up just like my Li-Ions.

But using stacked IMR's means you have to watch for how far they discharge while vaping. Hell I trip one Li-Ion cell on a fairly regular basis when stacking. If my total volts are at ~6.4 does that mean each cell is at a safe 3.2V? Nope.

FWIW I'm sure the SaberTouch is still probably using a cheap linear regulator and without an actual on/off switch there will always be some current leakage to boot. Vapetimes will be rather pathetic with 16340's. If he had designed it properly that diameter tube could have easily accommodated some 18350s. Smokey's review of the High Power SaberTouch showed it topped out at 3A. ~4.7V with a dual coil.

Just get this charger, and you can charge about anything :)

That charger has some bad reviews! I was very close to buying one till I rear up on a bunch of failures. The plus model is supposed to be a bit better.

But its more hobby/RC oriented and doesnt have charging slots.
