Awful bitterness of pure PG, wrong PG?

Hi guys,
After lurking for a very long time this is my first post:
To thin down a doubler, I ordered 1 ltr. of PG at a vet. The bottle says 100% pure uncut PG. It doesn't mention any pharmaceutical standards. It does mention however it's for vets use only, but I don't think that's a problem since it's pure pg.

But now the problem:

It has an awful bitter taste, until it's almost unvapable. I've tried different cartos to rule out any technical causes. I also vaped the flavourless fluid itself and put a drop on my tongue. Everytime I tasted an awful bitterness with an sweet creamy undertone.
I've found another supplier, also a vet pharmacy, who sells usp graded pg by a minimum of 5 ltrs, but I'm hesitant to waste more money on useless fluids. Of course I can use VG, but I don't really like the sweetness.
So has anybody got the same experience or have I just bought the wrong PG?

Thanks!,

Mrzl

@ Twolf:
Nothing wrong with buying from a veterinarian. PG is used as a medicine for cows and sheep suffering from acetonemia/ketonemia, a metabolic disease. Because of this (living in a diaryproducing area) , all the local suppliers I can find are in the animal-health sector.
Our drugstores don't sell pg, only the cosmetic variety of glycerin.
But obviously there's something wrong with the pg and I should've gone for usp. 100% Pure or uncut is absolutely no guarantee for the real deal!
Thank you for your advice about health risks. After this experience I will use usp grade only. I haven't started this new habit to become sick.

You're so right, sometimes they sell pg as liquid base for 10x the price of usp grade pg!

@VPdownunder:
Won't be fooled by terms like 100% pure or uncut anymore. I will only buy pharmacopeia grade products from now on.

I recently got 100% VG, in a 5 flavour sampler pack. I am LOVING it. It's hard to taste how sweet it is when you have sweet flavours to begin with. :)

And you have gotta love the vapor production. However, your tastes may be different from mine, I like as little throat hit, and a good sweet taste. (Favorite so far is Raw Honey, then Ginger)

Just so you know, a lot of the resellers don't sell USP grade PG. Most will buy USP grade and then repackage it. If strict guidelines are not followed it then is considered feed grade.

Learned something new. Being a city-dwelling gal, I never thought about it that way! :)
