Hey there, Enzo. Welcome to ECF, and thanks for asking the question.

In short, no... there are NO 18650 batteries that have a legitimate rating higher than 30A. Read through @Mooch 's blog post: There are no 18650 batteries with a genuine rating over 30A

Most likely that is a 20A rated battery. As long as you stay below 20A draw, you'll be fine. I won't swear to that, because I am not familiar with that battery, but chances are that it is 20A and not 10A... but definitely not 40A!

I haven't tested those yet but my guess is that they will end up being 20A, 3000mAh batteries. Treat them as such and you shouldn't have any problems. They are certainly not 40A batteries.

Thanks, Mooch! This was a new one to me as well, so I wasn't sure if you'd put it through it's paces yet or not. That mAh rating is a pretty good indicator, though. I actually pulled up your blog post at a vape shop the other day because one of their "vape tech's" kept trying to tell me that I needed to throw out my VTCs and buy their Efest 35A's... he just couldn't figure out why I didn't want to downgrade!

I made a visit to a brand new vape shop in my home town over the weekend. The owner is a nice guy, been vaping for several years, and seems to know his stuff. This is his fourth shop in four different towns.

However, I noticed the batteries he was selling were the yellow AWT 2600mah "40 amp" batteries. He said they were new and he was pretty impressed with them. I didn't say anything at the time because I didn't have the facts right there in black & white, but re-checking @Mooch's blog later I saw that these are only 20 amp batteries. From his tests, all the batteries claiming to be 30 amps or higher have tested out to be only 20 amp CDR batteries, except for the Sony VTC3 & VTC4 and LG HB2 which are true 30 amp batteries.

    AWT Yellow 40A 2600mAh 18650
    AWT Yellow 40A 2600mAh 18650 Bench Test Results...only a 20A battery

Next time I visit the shop, I'll tell the owner about Mooch's bench tests and let him decide what to believe himself.

First rule of batteries, there are no batteries that are over 30amp CDR. Any that claim they are over 30CDR on their printed label are re-wraps of other batteries, generally mostly in the 20amp CDR class. Only 3 high drain kings on the market Sony VTC3 (true 30amp), LG HB6 (true 30amp) and Sony VTC4 (capable of sustaining 30amp). Don't fall prey to the Efest, MXJO, IMRen, and AWT marketing scheme.

This topic seems like deja vu to the thread I posted a couple days ago [emoji28]

That happens a lot around here. The happen ending is when the people advising caution are believed. The unhappy ending is when we are not. Of course the unhappy part is not guaranteed, and may be delayed. Neither do we hear about it, except on the news, because the unhappy people might not be capable of typing any more, or at least not with both hands.

+1 to @Kaezziel Beg leave to doubt. A 3000mAh, 35 amp battery makes me immediately suspicious. Since the mAh can be checked with a good battery charger, it's probably fairly close to right. But there ain't no such thing as a 35 amp CDR battery. Some batteries can be rated so high for a pulse discharge, but these pulses are usually in milliseconds, not the seconds of a vape draw, and they ignore the idea of a stuck button or short from can to mod. To me, 3000mAh sounds high even for 20 amps. Most of them are in the 2100-2500 mAh range. Might only be a 15 or even a 10 amp battery. Bottom line: don't trust it at 35 amps until you see a bench test by somebody who knows. Treat it like a 20 amp battery and you'll probably be pretty safe, as @Mooch says. And next time you buy batteries, select the ones you need from Mooch's chart and buy them from a reputable dealer to get authentic ones.

The sad fact is many companies just put what ever number on their cells that they think will shift the most units. We are very lucky to have Mooch on-board who tests them and provides reliable trusted data on their true performance.
I would not use any cell now without him having tested it first.

I learned to get my batteries from a legit source, as well as only get brand name. I recently thought I bought some HE4s off Ebay. They didn't last but maybe an hour in an IPVD2 at 30 watts. Brought them to a buddy to test them, their capacity was about 1500 MAH!!!! Nothing better than spending the couple extra bucks for legit batteries lol
