Okay...I'm a newbie mad scientist.

I ordered 6 tobacco flavors from FA and about a dozen flavors from TPA.

How hard could this be?

I mixed up a few batches using 3 or 4 different ingredients and let them steep for a few days before sampling. They all tasted like BLECK!

They were so bad I didn't even have the first idea on what to add or dilute to correct the problem. I decided that until I have a good understanding of individual flavors actually taste like, I couldn't move forward.

I then mixed 6 individual 5ml batches of the FA tobacco flavors using only 3 drops of flavoring in each bottle. I have let them steep from last Saturday until when I tried them today.

Success!

All 6 batches tasted good, some slightly better than others, but all in all I liked them! I took notes, and some, even at 3 drops, were pretty strong. Not strong enough to discard or dilute, but I will reduce the flavors when I make the next batch.

Okay...tobacco flavor works!

Now, what to add?

This is getting fun!

I went through the same thing myself Pete , oddly enough with the same suppliers you used , and the same flavours !!

Now , with a little more experience under my belt , I rarely make Blecccch!! Juice . Its all a matter of discovering what flavours you like , and what flavours play well together.

Try adding any kind of nut flavour to tobacco , they compliment each other well.
Caramel and chocolate ( used sparingly) can give a surprising lift to many tobacco flavours. You dont want the sweeter flavours to dominate , just be present.

Cherry also works well with very strong flavours ( like DKTAB).

The Camtel from FA has a distinct musk taste , but a drop in tobacco juice gives it a real zing !!

Wait until you start using Acetyl Pyrazine or Guaiacol or Trimethyl Pyrazine !! Then you know its time for the Therapist !!

Congrats on the success! Yes, the FA Tobaccos are strong. I learned that the hard way as you have done. lol! EDIT: I managed to salvage some of those liquids by cutting each batch with an equal amount of unflavored base. Diluted it enough to make it vapeable although it still tasted goofy. That was also the time I discovered adding some apple flavoring really enhances the tobacco for me. So, there was some good that came out of that disaster.

For my tastes, I like to mix in about 3-5% TPA Apple or FA Apple Pie with any of the tobaccos I use. I will sometimes add up to 2% or so FA Caramel or English Toffee also. TPA French Vanilla at 2% to the tobacco/apple mix works fine too. I just LOVE these combos with TPA's DK Tobacco or FA Maxboro. Those tend to be my go-to flavors anyway but this seems to work with any tobacco.

I will get my tobacco mixed into the base to the strength I think it should be then add up to 5% of the Apple Flavor. Then the Caramel.Toffee/Vanilla if I'm so inclined. Finally, I'll sometimes use a few drops of FA Wild Nuts, Nut Mix, Walnut Or Almond depending on the tobacco base. Some are nutty already so won't use it then.

Many of the fruits work well with Tobaccos along with the others I mentioned. The sweeter fruits don't turn out as well for me though. Banana or Peach comes to mind - Yeeeech!
To me, adding an Apple flavor in some form really works some magic on a Tobacco Liquid. I never leave home without a good supply! YMMV of course.

You'll need to experiment with the amounts to suit your taste but I found it hard to add too much apple to my tobaccos.

An update...

Wednesday night I mixed two 5ml batches to try and make a tobacco and additional flavor combo.

So this is what I mixed:

#1
5ml base = 18mg nic, 60%PG and 40%VG
FA Tuscan Tobacco 2 drops
TPA Black Cherry 3 drops

#2
5ml base = 18mg nic, 60%PG and 40%VG
FA Tuscan Tobacco 2 drops
TPA Chocolate 3 drops

Tested them tonight.
What did they taste like you ask?
#1 tasted slightly tobaccoey and cherry and STRONG chemicals!
#2 tasted slightly tobaccoey and hardly any chocolate and STRONG chemicals!

I really have issues with the steeping time. The 6 straight FA tobacco flavors I made a week ago have really come together nice and taste great. They are a little strong but don't have any chemical taste.

I noticed in other threads some people add vodka or PGA to their mixes. Would that speed up the steeping time? Does that add throat hit? I really like a smooth vapor without much throat hit.

Is there anything I could do to speed up the steeping time?

Currently I leave the fresh mixed bottles on the kitchen counter out of the sunlight so I can give them a shake every so often.

It could be your nic liquid that has the chemical taste . Heating the liquid , and leaving it uncapped overnight ( so that air can get to the liquid) will speed up the steeping process. Try the mix using straight PG ( or your preferred PG/VG mix) with no nic , and see if the chemical taste is still there. If not , then its your nic liquid.
