I want to make a power suply for a PS with regular batteries (AA, AAA, or D)1.5 volt each, should i go into 4.5 volts or 6 volt, just in case a hurricane brings me a black out for more than a week
For regular alkaline batteries I would use 3xAA.
You could also use 4 x AA NiMH rechargables for just over 5 volts starting. I use a setup like this and use it until it drops to about 4.5 volts, it lasts a long time and with a second set of batteries charged and waiting I can go for at least three days.

What is your Kw and fuel?

I have a 15Kw on community propane (2,000 gal) that does the A/C, fridge, kitchen circuits, microwave, all other 15 amp circuits. Battery charger is no problems :D

BTW Gas range, clothes dryer and HWH, so we are covered!

BIG Gas bill though...:(

this one looks great. Ok, so one person said it looked "cheaply made"..but hey, for $20, I can be careful!!!

It charges in 8-10 hours. THAT'S what counts to me! I never thought about cigs during a hurricane, and now that I think about needing power for charging my ecig, I'm SOOO glad this topic has come up. I'll be vaping away while all my friends are hunting the elusive "store with power" so they can get their analogs!!!

Not to mention, when I travel to a England next year, I'll just pop that in my suitcase instead of trying to hunt down a euro/uk plug set up. I'm good to vape!

buy a cheap power inverter at walmart for you car's cigarette lighter. Changing dc to ac voltage. Doesn't have to be very big because charger's dont require much power. I have one for my charger's in case of pcc failure.

Then you am not such a mess and still with pretty machine

Walmart sells a Black and Decker inverter that works great for a battery charger in your car. Also might want to look into a Kensington Power Pack or the equivalent to carry with you so you can use a passthru. It too can be charged by the inverter.

I would like to have some kind of solar power backup thing. I just can't afford to spend a lot of money. I just don't have a clue what to look for.

somebody posted a link for a solar charger, it was really cheap and shipped from China ... I could not easily find it when I searched, but it's here on the forum somplace! I did just pick up 2 Lenmar mini's at Fry's (with rebate they were about $9 each). My USB pass-thru won't run on them, but they charge my bats fine.

Battery charging seems to be a near constant thing for me. I did all the cleaning and troubleshooting. So I have the USB mini's, a car charger (which DOES work with my pass-thru) an ac/usb that I can plug into an outlet in case my computer is not on. I think I could supply your stormy nights, Stormy Nights! I now have more ways to supply power than I have e-cigs.

If I find the post for the Solar charger I will return.

I am going to make one of these. Great idea thanks. You never know when it might come in handy.

Well, great! I posted my last comments while you had allready placed this one. This is NOT the solar charger I found on the site that I mentioned, but it looks really cool. I will have to try one, too!

Thanks!

I hope you are not talking about the gasoline generator! :p
