so the husband and i purchased a riva 510 SE starter kit from liberty-flights.com last night. we are anxiously waiting for it to arrive so we can try it [we are both brand-new to vaping, although i had one bad experience with a friend's analog-style automatic a few months ago] and the riva 510 was highly recommended by the good people on ECF, so that's what we're starting with. we figure we'll share the starter kit at first and expand from there once we figure out what we're doing and maybe even what we like.

however, while the husband is aesthetically ...unconcerned ;), i am wondering if i might not prefer the standard 510 to the riva, just because when we originally started researching [so much research!], i found and loved the "pen-style" of the original 510 model. so my question is this: am i going to be spoiled by the riva and not want the shorter battery life and smaller carts as opposed to the seemingly endless [unmodded] customization options for the 510? has anyone gone from a larger PV to a smaller one and actually preferred it? FYI: i currently smoke about a pack a day [marlboro 27s] and am starting out with 18mg e-juice until i know what i'm doing.

p.s. i know this is a silly question, but i'm actually concerned! and wondering if anyone has "downgraded" and found out they liked it better.

Actually, lots of people (of course, as expected) went the other way, BUT they (many) keep and use both. I'd suggest trying the regular 510 to see if you like it....but just know that when you need extra battery life, or want to use an LR atty/carto that you have the Riva battery as an option. I know several people who prefer the "little" batteries when they are in public, but use the Riva as the workhorse. So....no. It's not a silly question, and yes, some people prefer the little 510. It's nice to have options. Personally, I prefer the bigger Riva, and when you get used to it, I doubt you'll think it's too big. With the Riva you can use the low resistance stuff that gives a little warmer, harder hit. I wouldn't consider it a "downgrade"....I'd consider it an option. :)

The nice thing about it all is you can have both! Each have their place but yes the 510 gets old with batt life etc, I started with that and then the Riva have used a 510 twice after that at 2 very formal weddings. You guys will need 2 kits asap what to do while batt charges? Smoke? Welcome to ECF and best wished on this new journey.

I went from a larger to a smaller. Well, I have an ego and won a Joye 510 from Rocky Mountain Vapors. I really like it! I use it mostly going out shopping or if I want to stealth vape walking the dog. I think it's a great pv and I get a great vape.

My all day all night pv is my ego for the battery, but I like having a mini too.

It depends on the day. I bounce around from high voltage, variable voltage, 3.7, and the 3.2 of the ego and little batts. What it comes down to for me is what kind of carto I feel like using. Some work great on high voltage and some on low. The battery life usually means I'll leave my mini's at home. I do find I like the kr808 over the 510 mini battery. If you get a pcc you can keep them charged all day if you like the size better. Good luck.

Where I usually am
I have a bunch of PV's.... And I like them all. I usually use my Provari but I like to use a pen style to to be more conspicuous or just for the heck of it.
To me it's a habit and a hobby:)
in the beginning I have had a bad experience with my first purchase but from what I see, the product you ordered is a great start.
I really hope you enjoy it and of coarse if you have any problems, you know where to get help:)

I started with a Riva 510. When it arrived my wife got interested so we shared while I ordered her a kit. She wanted the cigarette look so I got a Joye 510 for her. About a week later she decided she didn't like constantly charging batteries so I ordered her a Riva kit. I since have taken the Joye batteries and use them for some flavors I only occasionally vape like fireball and root beer and once in a while I take them out somewhere. Bottom line is they do get used. I have since gone to 1100 mah batteries and type b ego tanks when I'm going to be out all day. I've been thinking about buying some of the Joye 510 T batteries which are 280 mah as opposed to the standard 180. I don't consider anything I've bought as stepping down or up. It all gets used sometime and I've always got a backup plan.

I was a PAD Blend 27 smoker also. I bought an 1050mah Ego style tank kit (Riva is kinda like an ego) when i decided to come back into vaping and well I never looked back. I had started on the small battery 510 kit when i first got into vaping but i noticed that the 510 batteries didn't last me long and the PCC that came with my 510 kitt would only charge 2 batteries before it died and had to be re-charged. Do I feel like I am now spoiled with the Ego style battery kit. Truth is yeah my batt last me a very long time. and the 750 mah battery on the riva SE will last you a good long time before you have to recharge it. I would suggest that you try it to see if you like it cause in my opinion the size of the Riva battery isn't that big.

Not a silly question at all in my opinion and you're doing the right thing by starting some research on it. The thing to keep in mind is that there are a lot of variables to cover, and finding what works best for you is the main goal. Here are some of my suggestions for you to check out.

Small: The Bloog Maxfusion, the echo, the manuel 510 with pcc. Large: E-power, SLB kgo. Put any of these in the search at youtube and it should keep you busy for a while. lol.

My primary pv is the e-power with ce2 and duel coil cartos. I love it but it is big. (makes my ego look like a mini lol)

I would not look at it as stepping down. I think it depends on the individual----life style and what works for them. I have used a regular 510 for 5 1/2 months. Yes, the battery life is not that long, but in my life that is no big deal. Charge one while using the other one. I won a GOGO a couple of weeks ago. Yes, the battery life is awesome-2-3 days on one battery, but this does not really matter to me one way or the other. I find myself still picking up the 510 to vape as well as the GOGO....

I'm a Riva (ego style - non SE) user and think it does a very good job with tank attys. Tank attys are Joye - also from LF. I'm not too style conscious. But recently acquired a Lea Innokin. It's a pen style device with decent bat life and, I think, it is "elegant". Kink of like a cig (27 or whatever) with a snobby like add on filter. Also its a tank type feed system that will likely last you a good part of day without a refill. You may want to give it a look or a try. Look around on ECF and I think you'll find a supplier at around 35 bucks for a kit. Kit though only has 1 bat and 1 atty. Not a cig size particularly but stylish and "elegant", IMO. Fits by view of what I think a female might find "stylish". It has some other interesting a useful features (like 3 tap "off" for storing in purse) to it as well, but - you decide whether to investigate or not.

My $.02.....the Rivas look pretty classy, and are smaller than you imagine they would be.

Eventually, your single Riva battery will leave you stranded- and the skinnier 510 battery will feel like a "why bother". They are cute, and I like the skinny ones, but I haven't touched them in months. I like my 18650 mods because I just dislike keeping track of charging batteries.

You can dress the Riva's up pretty easily with bling, or even nail polish if you want to make them purtier.

I did not read the whole thread. I use both 510 and Riva 510

If you buy a 510 buy the manual battery model. That way it will be safe from carto or dripping leaks since 510 manuals have a totally sealed threaded end. And the manuals won't turn on accidentally from wind or vibration.

510 cannot use the atomizers that come with most Rivas because 510 can't use LR atomizers nor LR cartomizers - the slims batteries can be damaged by LR stuff. 510 needs standard resistance stuff (Riva can use standard or LR)

510 cannot use the Riva's charger nor any fat-battery fast charger. Label your Riva charger so you don't accidentally screw a 510 into it. The fast charger can damage slim batteries.

thanks for your responses guys! i guess i still have a mental block about there being only one type/model that you use. i'm thinking i'll wind up using my riva at home and eventually purchase a 510 for when i go out. our LF order just shipped today so we still have a few days to wait :( i read somewhere that it's like waiting for christmas, waiting for your first order to get in so you can try it, and that's definitely how we feel.

Nothing wrong with buying into a system
E-cig economics - Battery cost : electronic_cigarette

I crunched the numbers, and the 510 will cost roughly double that of the Riva 510 in terms of raw battery cost. $2.75/month vs $5/month, presuming you replace the Riva with the kit, which to be fair is a good deal. But raw cost for batteries is only one way to look at it, there's ease of use, style, what will fit into a pocket.

Infiniti Ion Starter Kit (Black) - Ion Series - Starter Kits
Perhaps others can recommend a better PCC that takes manual batteries. I have a blu PCC as a backup, but I find I got use to the T-rex in the field, so I just depend on it, and keep 510s as a backup.

I was going to be traditional and get a 510 first, but the endor talked me Ito the Riva. "you're going to buy it in two weeks anyway.". He was probably right. But, I just got my Joye 510 battery today. It's amazing how tiny it feels. Even though my Riva never really felt too big. I got the 510 to use for lighter vaping, and use the Riva for LR dripping. So if I step away from my office or house for a bit, the little guy comes along, otherwise it's the warm hard hit of the Riva. Either way, the whole 510 set up is awesome. All of my stuff is interchangeable. Ecept the LR atty's. All my other carts and atty's and drip tips. I cam swap out flavors in a snap.

I forgot I smoked real cigs. If you want a good laugh, use your Riva for a week or so, then pick up (don't smoke) a real cig. I had to ask my friend if he switched to shorties. Lol. Why bother.

Best of luck!
