I’ve had Backwoods Brew on my radar since DKrom68 started producing e-juice as I have purchased nic liquid fro DIY from him in the past and was very satisfied with the transactions. His following is now enthusiastic and positive. The purchase of 15 ml Malty was made of the 4th of July weekend and I received the package on Thursday (following the Monday holiday) USPS first class literally coast-to coast; New York to Oregon. I waited to review as this is a custom product as it id always created when ordered which means the flavor can and will mature and improve for a week or two following arrival.

My first impression was that this is thick … as thick perhaps as straight VG but the liquid I received was 70/30 PG/VG which was fine with me as I usually vape 80/20. I requested 36 MG and received 35. Not a problem and I have noticed other Backwoods Brew juices have unconventional nicotine levels. This is just another indication that each batch is hand-crafted.

As my head was wreathed in vapor and my monitor obscured in a thick fog, I was so impressed with the production of vapor that I didn’t think too much about the taste initially. When I did, however, I was taken aback by the subtlety of the flavor. The malt was apparent with a slightly nutty backnote, fairly dry (as opposed to sweet, not moist) and eminently satisfying. Without a candy-like sweetness, the malt flavor is akin to a grain beverage rather than milk balls.

My regular, daily vapes (from one other supplier exclusively for months) are of a sweeter nature - chocolate, pastry, candy - and while I really enjoy them, had been thinking about something less sugared without being savory. It just happens, Backwoods Brew Malty delivers just that experience. If you want something that will smack you between the eyes with a knockout flavor punch, this ain’t it. If, however, you’d like to find something with a delicate subtlety that will have you sitting back in your favorite vaping chair saying, “Ahhhhhhh ….,” this one may suit you as it does me. It makes me anxious to try the Malty Toffee and I shall on the next order..

For the record, this liquid was sampled on an eGo @ ~3.2V, Chuck @ 3.7 V and on a 5V Batlelby. Interestingly, there was little difference in the flavor or vapor production on any of these devices. I Would describe the taste as slightly sweet rather than fairly dry when dripping a 901 in an effort to discern flavor to the greatest degree.

So, here are the numbers, IMHO:

Flavor 9/10 – Subtle and very slightly sweet, delightful but not distracting..

Vapor 10/10 – Out-fogs every other juice I have tried (and that’s quite a few).

TH 8/10 – While not a high priority to me, Malty definitely lets you know when you take a drag. If urged to describe the intensity, I would say soft rather than aggressive.

Overall 9/10 – Will definitely re-order.

In addition, the juice is reasonably-priced, customer service is unparalleled and delivery is equal to the best of the best ECF-approver suppliers.

You've got me wanting to try Malty on my next order. I haven't been disappointed with any of his flavors thus far. You're going to love Malty Toffee. It has a true toffee flavor with a malt undertone, slightly sweet but not overpowering. It's my dessert vape every evening and one I have to go to off and on throughout my day. The vapor production is through the roof, just like your description of Malty. I've found that to be true with each and every flavor I've gotten from Don.

woot! what up fellow Oregonian! Thanks for the review. I always wondered about this Malty. I heard they used EcoPure Rich as a base and I ordered some of that

Ecopure rich is definitely NOT used as a base for Malty. Ecopure is a totally different company, and rich has a completely different taste.

Legend has it that BWB wanted to make a more affordable version of Ecopure (one of the most expensive juices money can buy) and came up with Malty; hence its unofficial nick-name "Ecopoor". Malty is far a superior juice (and about half the price) in my opinion. And don;t even get me started on Malty Toffee....

Nice review from back in the days before Don's following became legion so that he would become lionized and have to work his .... off (I'll bet he never had an inkling of what would happen to his life when he first started making and then selling bwb juices on ECF---well, too late to back out now, LOL! Ah, success---such a double-edged sword.)

Malty as EcoPoor. I never heard that one before, but I like it.

Funny, my first bottle of Malty, now half-gone and steeped for seven months, has turned a lovely crimson-orange color, while the unopened 15ml bottle I bought a month or two ago is almost colorless and transparent. Doesn't look like the new one's going to morph into technicolor, but you never know...

Malty and w2v Crème Brûlée---world's best mixers for making tobacco juices more luscious.
