Fans of the Friday the 13th movies may be disappointed by Platinum Dunes recent announcement that they have cancelled production on "Friday the 13th Part 2" set to be released Friday, March 13, 2010. Platinum Dunes is reportedly waiting to see how their relaunch of the popular "A Nightmare on Elm Street" movie fairs with the public. "Nightmare" is set to be released in April of 2010. Guess we will have to wait and see how this plays out, but it could mean the end of Derek Mears as the famous Hockey Mask wearing killer.

What are your thoughts on it????

It's actually Jason Vorhees.

I must say I am surprised. Re-makes of popular movies is the trendiest thing going in hollywood right now and the first Friday the 13th remake was a box office success. I suspect we will see more of freddy ,jason, michael myers, leatherface and maybe even goold ole pumpkin head and the the hellraiser crew again before it's all said and done. I wouldnt be surpised to see more alien and predator movies either. The media loves to canibalize itself. It's alot easier then thinking.

I was kinda bummed when I read that Robert Englund would not be in the upcoming Nightmare movie...from reading on his website, he did work with the new 'Freddie' but encouraged him to find his own Krueger! LOL

The trailer for the new Nightmare looks really good...much more of a realistic makeup job (as far as burns go) on Freddie...

I enjoy a good horror movie but to be honest........any movie would be better than the latter "Nightmare" flicks. 3 thru 6 and "New Nightmare" were all just horrid. Same as "Friday" entries 5 thru JasonX. I want something fresh! A re-telling that is worthy of the original movies. I loved Platinum Dunes relaunch of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and their move into the Friday the 13th franchise was what I expected out of "Todays" horror market, but it could have been ALOT better. I am awaiting this new relaunch of "Nightmare" with an achy stomach. It COULD be really good.......or it could be a disaster.

I have to admit, I actually like good old latter Freddy in all his cheesy glory. The first Nightmare movie scared the crap outta me, but the rest were pure silly entertainment to me. I am disappointed as well that Robert Englund won't be playing Freddy in the remake and not sure how much I'm going to like it without him. As far as Friday the 13th goes, I started the new movie and just couldn't stay interested long enough to finish it.

I'm betting on disaster.

The original Nightmare movie is the only movie that really ever freaked me out. I just can't stomach the fact that robert englund will not be reprising his role. the new freddy doesn't even look like freddy kruger...looks more like a burned up voldemort.

So, just to get this straight in my horror-loving head:

They CANNED a sequel to a REMAKE of a classic, a remake which was complete garbage from beginning to end......

So, whats the problem?

I work in the industry, there are actually 1-4 remakes released a MONTH this last year, almost every single one was total and utter crud. The studios KNOW this, for every StarTrek there will be 6 Ft13th remakes.

Screw all these unneccessary remakes, its gotten old and even rob zombies wasnt that well done, and more then that it felt very very unnecessary.

OOOOOOO man a new Hellraiser would be so cool.

Hollywood doesn't cater to horror fans anymore. They cater to teenagers with unoriginal ideas and remakes.
That's cause thru the 90's they kept shoveling that 80's crap down our throats with Freddy, Jason, scream. Well people stopped showing up to bad movies so they stopped making bad movies.
Thank god for Japanese remakes like grudge to save us.
The technology from Avatar i think will be used to make some INSANE horror movies I can't wait....

Paranormal Activity was one of the BIGGEST WASTES OF TIME, EVER!

Im the guy who saw the Battle Of Endor in the big screen because it even had more originality and damn HORROR than Paranormal Activity did.

The spanish film [REC] was awesome, felt just right, however the american remake was exactly what you ex pect when Hollywood remakes a year old movie (It was only out for a YEAR when they remade it!^$!#^!@) for American audiences because the original was to edgy or complicated for our little minds...:-x

I haven't seen Paranormal yet but heard it was disappointing. I have REC in the netflix cue because I heard that one was good. I do find foreign horror films to be way better than what's being made here these days. I'm not on the Twilight bandwagon whatsoever, but found an awesome vampire flick in Let The Right One In if you stand watching in subtitles.

I think i love you.
That was a good flick.
Seeing as you enjoy subtitles (or at least dont mind) check out Martrys, its very enjoyable and high in the WTF factor but handled in a rather elegant and almost artistic fashion.
