Cool review, man. One minor insignificant thing - that Poindexter from Revenge of the Nerds rendition of the Ghostbusters theme is f*%^ing atrocious... PLEASE put on something else for your background music, because really... it's BAD

Seriously!

Come on, Mooby! For your next review, I want to hear "Bodies" by Drowning Pool. Of course, music like that requires you to be testing out a mod at 6V, like your new Chuck. While you're choking on the massive heavy vapor, make sure you throw up the horns and headbang. :D

well as long as we're posting requests, I think a Halloween video with the monster mash is required

Well, my "Bartleby" (still not a fan of the name) was in my mailbox when I got home today. (Yay! New toy!)

I have it plugged in to my USB port right now, and vaping on it while I am writing this. My impressions thus far:

The Good:
  • I love the size of this thing. It's tiny. Will be great for stealth vaping. I can cover the whole thing in my hand, button side down, and hide the LEDs while pushing the button with my middle finger.
  • Great job on the holes in the box for the atty, switch, and miniUSB port. Obviously care was taken when putting it together.
  • Vapor production is very nice. Almost comparable to my Chuck, which says a lot. The more I use it, the more I like it.
  • Good features for such a tiny unit. USB charging. Vaping while charging (passthrough). LEDs for charging and activation. And the standard on/off switch.
  • Comes with 2 900mAh 14500 3.7v protected batteries. That should be good for about half a day of vaping for me. :D

The Not-So-Good
  • Because it's tiny and has a lot of features, it is very crowded inside. One wire going down the length of the battery side makes it hard to fit the battery in, which in turn makes it hard to snap the cover in place.
  • All the "guts" are hot glued into place. If the switch goes out, it's going to be very difficult to replace.
  • It's plastic. If I drop it, I'll probably kill it. (But I knew that before I bought it)

Now all of that being said, I knew about the things on the "Not-So-Good" list, and bought it anyway. It's a nice little mod, and I am sure I will get a lot of very enjoyable use out of it. And being a beginning modder myself, I'm hoping that by the time the switch goes out, I'll have enough know-how to fix it myself.

All in all... it's a great little unit, and a good addition to my little collection. And it will sure as heck help me to never touch another stock 510 battery again... barring any unforseen accidents, of course.

My order of two arrived today. Both well made and working like champs. Is it the case that the longer battery life also extends the initial voltage for a longer period of time? It seems that way - iow, the best power on a batt when it's just taken off the charger.... seems the same effect with the mega batts as well. This is even better. I probably would have passed without the mini usb and with the button sticking up a bit more than the JS, the on/off switch is a great feature. Thanks - Mooby for the review and the code ;-) and Jay for the box and his additions making a good box into a better one. And to Nicowolf too, of course!

Yes, there is a much longer period of time that the 14500 battery will hold onto a good charge before you notice any voltage drop-off, if you notice it at all before it's time to recharge them.

I'm having some technical difficulties with my Bartleby and can't use it at the moment. No fault of Cybervex's, he built it very well. I think the USB charger board on mine is dead. I'll be testing it out with other batteries just to be sure before I send it back for replacement. Faulty parts happen, it's no biggie. Cybervex has been awesome to deal with. He immediately sent out an extra pair of batteries for me to test with, and if that doesn't work, he'll replace the unit.

It worked great for the half hour of vaping I got out of it. I'm sure that if I could plug in a charged battery, it would work like a champ. It just won't charge them via USB right now.

I ordered some 15mm charging spacers so I could try charging the batteries on the charger I use for my 18650 batteries on my Chuck.

I would recommend to anyone buying this unit to invest in a plug-in battery charger when you can. Not only will it save you issues if your USB charger kicks the bucket, it will also help you have some good, charged batteries on standby. If you've already got a charger for some bigger batteries, invest in a couple of charging spacers. They're about $2 each, so it's much cheaper than buying a new charger just for your 14500s.

cybervex answered my questions regarding voltage drop off in a PM and validated my observations. Good communication with Jay all along the way.

I bought a battery charger last week:

Tenergy Charger for Li-ion Cylindrical Batteries $16.95

... and I think it's defective or the led lighting is messed up. I put two batts in and one light is green, one red. I switch batts and the same lights are the same color. If I take one out, then the light on the one the battery is turns red (as it should be) and while they do charge - testing with multimeter - sometimes the light changes to a 'yellow' and sometimes green or doesn't change at all. I'm guessing that's not usual. :) Anyone have experience with this charger - seems to be popular. No manual.....

Jay also sells versions without the lights and USB options. Just a standard box mod with Button, on off switch, and choice of atty connector and color.

I don't have need for the usb and I prefer no lights. I have a charger for my batts already.

I opted for 2 510 box mods for 60.00. Nice to have a back up.

I really like that matte green color.

Hey Gang!

I performed a "stress test" on my Bartleby this past week. Here is the test procedure and results.

Procedure:

1) Donned vest and snorkel gear on an island in the Caribbean
2) Forgot to remove my Bartleby from my swimming trunks pocket
3) Went snorkeling (saw pretty fish and corals)
4) Felt Bartleby in my pocket on a back swing.
5) Said "OH ...." while underwater
6) Swam back to shore
7) Took out my Bartleby and opened the back
8) Removed 510 Atty and Cart
9) Let air dry
10) Looked at it 10 mins later and noticed that it was corroding inside
11) Removed Battery (forgot to do that first)
12) Took everything inside and rinsed the unit in "fresh water" (if you can call it that in the Bahamas)
13) Dried unit with paper towels
14) SCRUBBED corrosion off of positive Battery terminal
15) Dried battery and put it back in unit
16) Re-attached Atty and Cart

Results:

Damn thing STILL WORKS!!!! Hasn't skipped a beat.

I will need to place a few drops of WD-40 onto the switch as the metal on the switch has rusted a tad and I can't clean it easily.

I hope no one else will be as stupid as I was, but if you are, I hope that you are as LUCKY as I was as well!

Peace!

Jay built and shipped mine I guess on Monday. Got it this morning. I had just convinced my dad to try out a 510 kit when the package came. I opened mine up, inserted battery, filled cart, vaped like a ...., and then gladly handed my dad my 510 kit. Nuff said. Great work Jay! Thanks a million!

BTW- does anyone know if the USB on my car stereo will push enough power to charge this badboy so that I could passthrough wile driving?
