I was wondering what the best batteries are for the Zmax Mini. I know they take the 18350, the ones that came with mine are the red 800mAh ones, but I was wondering if there is something better out there, a higher mAh, that will last a little longer. I've been looking online and have found some, but I don't know about being protected or unprotected or if the brand is a good or bad one. I'm still very new to all of this (only about 1 month in and only a few days in with the Zmax). Any suggestions are appreciated :)

Mrs. P,

Ignore the advertized mAh rating. Two reasons: 1. It is most often inflated advertizing, and 2. it is measured over a range that doesn't apply to our use. The mAh rating indicates useful charge from fully charged down to the minimum allowed discharge, (i.e., 4.2v down to 2.5v to 2.8v depending upon the battery). But in your Zmax you want the battery that holds a charge from 4.2v down to ~3.3v the longest. You don't care about the time below ~3.3v. You would have to compare tested discharge curves to compare batteries.

You don't need a protected battery in the Zmax. The electronics in the Z is the equivalent or better. And the ICR batteries that required protection aren't favored anymore. Safer battery chemistries are most often prefered now.

For 18350, I trust AW brand IMR batteries, like this: AW IMR 18350 3.7V 700mAh - Batteries.

That is very insightful, thank you! I'm glad you said that the mAh isn't really as important because seeing the 800mAh was throwing me off coming from ego Twists! I have the efest 800mAh batteries and I have no problem with them, I got 4 total so I have some with me at all times and plenty charged.

The RED Efests are just fine!
