I try to clean mine regularly because they do work much better. I take a q-tip and dip it into rubbing alcohol and clean the metal rings and inside the hole [ make sure it's not dripping wet, just moist ] I also will take a pin or toothpick and clean out the tiny holes on the sides. Wipe with a soft cloth or paper towel till clean. Hope this solves your problem.

I also soak mine once in a while but use enough alcohal to cover just the threads!
It sounds more like a post problem to me. Take a pin and insert it just a tiny bit into the hole at the top of the batt. Lift gently while going in a circle (to lift the post back up a touch). That should make better contact and solve your problem.
No idea why it slips down but it does happen.
Good Luck!
