First 6 months I was vaping, I was all about the auto batteries. They are very convenient to use. However, I ordered a manual just to give it a try, and that's all I use anymore.

The manuals just give so much more control. Plus, when refilling carts, you don't have to worry so much about clogging up a manual since the switch doesn't get juiced up like an auto can.

Two main reasons: 1. You can press and hold the button to manually heat up the atomizer without having to suck on it to activate a switch, which translates into faster and more controlled vaping. 2. Manuals are sealed at the carto end so if you are a person who refills, there is virtually no way for juice to get inside the battery and cause problems observed with autos.

In addition, I like having complete control of the overall process.

Double D,

I press the button before bringing it to my lips, so its already a bit warm...giving me a nice hit from the start. And of course, I continue holding the button until my lungs are nice and full of that yummy vapor x3

Oh, and no...you don't have to get anything new other than the battery itself! Everything from your automatic kit will work with the manual batteries.

If you are going to refill, you need at least 1 manual battery. I have been refilling for over a year now and only lost 1 battery in the first month to overfilling thanks to my manuals. Fill cartomizer, blot, then put it on a manual battery and take a few puffs. Once you have determined that it is hitting well, take it off and blot the bottom again then affix it to whatever auto you prefer.

Personally I only use manuals for refills as my fingers get enough button pressing at work. I have a friend that prefers them though.

I recommend autos for beginners. This is because they are very similar to a cigarette and many beginners forget to push the button. I like autos because of there ease of use and tightness of draw. Some like the lighter draw of the manuals and the fact you can get more control. Ideally I think it is safe to say that having both is a great thing.

I know it seems petty but I'm conflicted because on the one hand I do like the notion of preheating the carto and no risk of ruining the batt due to seepage; on the other hand the switch detracts from the appearance of the rig itself. That grey lump is just sitting there on my otherwise elegant wand of magic nicotine goodness. I mean I go to all the trouble of peeling the labels off my cartos and buffing them to a chromeish finish and sanding down the goofy bumpy plastic simulated cigarette-ash end-cap just to end up with my eyes an inch or so away from that little off color nub? I think not sir.
