Hey guys, sorry if I post this in the wrong place, but I didn't find a sub forum that seems appropriate.

So, I have a BCV Surfrider clone (hybrid) and it has been working great but all the sudden this last weekend I noticed one of my batteries just stopped working.. not a big deal. So I put in another battery. Still not working. So I was playing around and I noticed that my button got extremely hot. I took the battery out and noticed that it was hotter than I've ever felt.

I was playing around with it to see if something is wrong, but everything seems fine. I accidentally put in the battery backwards and it worked fine like how it used to.

Anyone have any idea what is causing this?

sounds to me like a meltdown waiting to happen.

I'd ask if you have a multimeter to check your mod.

Pretty sure from the sounds of it the answer is no.

What about the topper? what are you using on the top and do you understand what the requirement is (protruding center pin) to use the hybrid-look

It is a dripper, a Dark Horse. I don't have a multimeter on hand, but I can have it checked tomorrow.

Is there a part I should replace? The dripper or the mod itself?

You should take the battery out and don't touch that mod.

A second time: does your dripper have a protruding center pin, or is it just flat/flush with the 510 thread; if it is not protruding, then when you fire the mod you short out the battery. Your battery positive might just be dented from usage causing it to shortout

lithium batteries get hot before they explode.

The battery has been out since it got hot. Heard too much stories about exploding stuff for me to use until I get this figured out.

That's what the center pin looks like, I think this is protruding? although once I put on the top part from my mod, the bottom becomes almost flush with the center pin slightly protruding to make contact with the positive side of the battery.

'almost flush' and 'slighty protruding' does not sound very good.
the center pin needs to contact the battery and if the metal around the center pin also touch the battery you get instant short.
That is a danger of those hybrid-look things.

you need the center pin on your dripper to STICK OUT clearly and definitely.
If you didn't know that you should be asking yourself why the person that sold you that mod didn't mention it.

Do get a meter or some way of testing your builds. Trial and error can be a hard master.

I usually go to a B&M store locally to fiddle around with that kind of stuff. But they moved and I have issues getting there regularly. But since this has come up, I'll definitely start having more tools around the house for stuff like this, thanks!

The dark horse isn't there greatest atty for hybrid (it's a great atty for sub ohm builds, massive airflow, I use one.... Just not a hybrid atty).
The center positive pin is adjustable some... Screw it out some
Sent with one hand, the other is busy vaping.

Yeah, I just did that and it's working fine now. Thanks.

And thanks for your service!
