Battery Question for the Pros???

I was taking a measurement on a AW IMR 16340 battery with my calipers not realizing that my calipers would complete the connection from Pos - Neg. I can't believe I did this. Well, after seeing a little smoke, I dropped everything. It only made contact for a second. Should I toss the battery?

I wouldn't toss it. IMR's wont really explode or vent hot gas like li ions. So you might as well use it.

I've been reading up on batteries and battery safety. It's really scary to think that if something goes wrong internally that the battery could explode. What is the worst case scenario with the IMR's? How about the tenergy cr123's?

I Would toss that Battery.

What are you saving verses what could you lose? Saving a $9 battery verses catching your house on fire?
