I just got my first mech mod, I've done everything safely, got Sony VTC4 2100mah 3.7v batteries, an Xstar XP4 charger, a cheap multi meter and am keeping my coils over 1 ohm atm. My question is, how do i know when to stop using and change the battery? I was under the impression that you shouldn't let them run too low?

When you first get your battery it's important to use it until it completely dead, and make sure you fully charge it. Then after that you're right, you don't want to use your battery till it's completely dead, run them till you can tell a difference in vapor production, or to be even more safe, check them with a multimeter.

Oh and you should figure how many amps your battery has, anything with 20+ amps is safe to sub ohm. I'd say 20-24 amps is safe for .4 ohm and up. And 30+ amps are safe for .2 and up.

Hope this helped!

Never run a lithium ion battery down until it's completely dead. Below 2.5V you hurt them immediately. Your charger might also not be able to save them. Below 2V and it gets less likely that your charger can save it. The battery will also have a reduced life span. There is no gain for taking this risk.

The battery will generally come with about a half charge in it, so around 3.7V. You can use it like that or charge it first. It does not matter if you fully charge it the first time.

Correct, never let them get too low. You will notice a reduction of vape performance as the battery voltage drops. The first few times use your voltmeter, or DMM, to check voltage regularly. It will be very close to 4.2V when freshly charged and drop with use. It will quickly go to 3.9V and then spend a fair bit of time from there to about 3.7V. I stop using mine at around 3.7V. After that the voltage will drop faster and faster, the reverse of when it was freshly charged. After you have gone through a few discharges you should be able to tell when you should check the voltage by the way it's vaping.

These batteries have no memory and charging often actually makes them last longer as opposed to fewer deep discharges.

Where on earth did you hear that? You never deplete a Li-On battery "completely dead". Most of them you don't run below 3.2 volts, certain chemistry you can run as low as 2.5 volts - but you better know you have a battery that can tolerate that.

When you run Li-On under voltage - that would be "completely dead" - or charge over voltage that's when bad things start happening to battery chemistry, which can lead to those unwanted venting accidents.

Wrong. You're thinking of some other battery chemistry, but not lithium ion batteries. Lithium ion batteries will be shipped or sold with a partial charge which allows them to be used immediately, however the best thing to do is to put new batteries on the charger to top them off.

you are an absolute model citizen... seems as though you learned and then proceeded to do. i wish everyone would, then i wouldn't worry about someone who can't wait to blow some "sick clouds" blowing something up. best of luck and enjoy. <*}}}>{

Yeah.. I agree. That is kind of wrong information to be throwing out there. My device automatically turns itself off & wont let me vape if I get below 3.6 volts. I'm still learning about batteries but thanks for the extra info! :)
