Looking at getting my first mod-innokin itaste VTR. Says it works with 18650 battries. I've been using egos and currently use and love my MVP2. I noticed the 18650 batteries range from 800 mah to 3500 mah with such a wide range of power is there anything that makes one better than the other? I'm guessing the 18650 is the size.
Can anyone point me in the direction?
Thank you

Tony, since you are upgrading I would also recommend buying a quality charger. A good charger will give you a consent charge, has over charge protection and extends the life of your batteries. The one I use is an Xtar but there several good chargers out there. With the cost of batteries a quality charger will pay for itself with extended battery life and most have charge level screen to warn you should you have a problem with your battery before you install it in your pv. Also it's an investment that will last for years and many pv upgrades.

Yup IMR batteries all the way. I have a Nitecore intellicharger I4 from 101vape.com, good price and a good charger.

If you are looking for some decent and inexpensive IMR's, check out Madvapes EH IMR batteries. They are middle of the road kind of batteries, better than trustfires but not as good as sony's. I have 8 EH IMR batteries and haven't had any problems with any of them over the last two months of use. I also have a couple of Sony VTC4's and they are a great battery.

FYI... 18650 = 18mm diameter, 65mm tall, 0 means it's a cylindrical battery.

Batteries & Chargers - 101 Vape - good place to get batteries and charger if they are in stock. Fast shipping and cheap prices. Lots of people use eFest and like them. 101vapes is in California

IMR Batteries, IMR Battery | MadVapes - where I got my EH IMR's. Madvapes is in North Carolina

Dislaimer: I'm no expert - I didn't stay in a Holiday Inn Express. I'm just relating what I've learned from others. You should search ECF on the topic. There are MANY good threads which go into more detailed explanations. Having said that . . . . .

The designation of 18650 is an indication of the size and shape.

18 is the diameter - 18mm
65 is the length - 65 mm
0 means it is a cylinder form factor.

Although not noted in the designation, there are also button/flat tops as well a protected/unprotected.

Generally, if your PV is regulated, you can use unprotected batteries. The circuitry in the PV will provide some control if the battery gets wonky. If your PV is unregulated (ex. mechanical mod) you MUST research this thoroughly to know what you're getting into insofar as your battery choice is concerned.

Again, search ECF for the many threads on this area. A good start is:

For PV's you want to use IMR high drain batteries. That is more important than the mah claimed by the "manufacturer". Sometimes the mah claims are accurate, sometime total fantasy.

I quoted "manufacturer" because most of the batteries are re-tasked batteries. Most have come from packs used for things such as laptops. How they are remade and by whom has a big effect on their performance and safety. From what I've been able to ascertain (see disclaimer) the AW, Panasonic and LG batteries are pretty much good-to-go. I've seen varying opinions. I've only used AW, so can't personally say.

As for mah . . . .

These are manufacturer claims. Sometime accurate, sometimes fantasy. I use them only as an indication of endurance, not a certainty, but only for a given "manufacturer". Just stay with the mainstream batteries that most of the veterans are using and you should be OK. If you are tempted to get one that is from a manufacture outside that group, research it before you buy/use it. Efast and Trustfire come to mind.

AW rates their unprotected 18650 at 2000mah. An 18650 being marketed 3400 probably isn't. Caveat Emptor.

ugh... i hate seeing battery university links. that place isn't bad to get a general understanding, but i've seen some information on quite a few pages on that site that's been completely debunked in tests that battery geeks have done over the years.

DISCLAIMER; i haven't looked into that site in a while, so YMMV.

Sorry to barge in here but I have a question about the new batteries I just bought.

They're marked IMR 18490 Are these knock-offs?

are they AW batteries? where'd you get them?

Yes, they're AW and red. Bought them from my local b+m where I purchased my pink Provari. The shop is called Unique and they're reputable.

I have 2 more and bigger ones coming from RTD Vapor.

What's the difference between 18490 and 18500?
Thank you!
