Battery Question

Hello all :)

I'm not a new vaper, but I am new one this forum. I've browsed this forums many of times for answers to all of my question, but have never made an account!

I was just wondering, I've ordered and Ipv2 and a tugboat. I currently have a new Efest 18650 2600(or 2500, i forget, lol) 35a battery. I've read alot of things about how it's re-wrapped and what not. But i want to know straight foward. Can i use this battery for sub-ohming? The lowest i'd be going is .4, and that's pushing it. probably around .6 or .7. If you could tell me if that's okay, and what wattage i should limit too. I just don't want to destroy this mod.

Thank you all !

As far as the quality of that batter goes I have no idea. As far as specs go you're fine. I can, and will if you want, break the math down for you but if memory serves the Ipv2 is a 50w device and 35 amps is ample playing room. Plus its regulated meaning in theory, i stress in theory, the electronics won't allow you to do anything disastrous.

We'll assume its a 20amp battery then to work on the safe side. Ohms law basics is V/R = I so volts/ resistance (atomizer) = Current (amps). Watts = V^2/R. So being concerned about your battery safety you will pull the most amperage with lower resistance. If .4 is your low mark then we can say 50w times .4 = 20. This means V^2 = 20 so V= 4.47 rounded. This means to get 50watts on a .4 ohm you'll need 4.47 volts. 4.47/.4 (v/r) that will equal 11.18 amps. Writing it out on paper helps, imo, considering algebra doesn't communicate well via typing. If you put a 3.0 ohm atomizer on at 50w you would only be using around 4 amps (but a crap ton of Volts lol).

If you are new rebuildables I highly recommend you spend some time with Baditude (one of our resident battery experts) and visit his blogs. Baditudes Blogs. The blogs regarding battery safety and rebuildables are listed below:

BATTERIES

9. Battery Basics for Mods: IMR or Protected ICR?
* Another essential read to understand which batteries are safe to use in mechanical and regulated mods. Includes a frequently updated list of recommended safe-chemistry, high-drain batteries with their specifications.

17. Purple Efest Batteries Not As Advertised
* A cautionary blog that reveals that the purple Efest batteries may not have the specifications advertised. Also includes a commentary on "continuous discharge ratings" vs "pulse discharge ratings" of battery specs.

OHM'S LAW

14. Ohm's Law for Dummies (Vapers)
* My attempt at explaining Ohm's Law in layman terms and how it relates to vaping.

16. Explain it to the Dumb Noob: Ohm's Law Calculations
* As simple as it is to use, some people have a tough time grasping the concept. Warning: Includes graphic photos of mod explosions.

MODS & REBUILDABLES

7. Information Resources for Your First RBA
* An essential read and reference guide for someone new to rebuilding coils. Includes a multitude of useful links on battery safety, mod safety, coil meters, coil building, and the differences in the three types of RBA's.

15. Inexpensive Mechanical Mod and RDA Setup
* A response to the frequently asked question on how to get into rebuildable atomizers with a mechanical mod inexpensively. Includes a list of commonly used tools and supplies for rebuilding and where to find them.

BATTERIES - WHERE TO BUY

Only buy batteries from a reputable supplier (not ebay or Amazon) as there are many counterfeit batteries being sold. Here are several reputable battery suppliers in the US.

* RTD Vapor
* Illumination Supply
* Lighthound
* Orbtronics
