18650 battery questions

Hi,

i have been vaping for about 4 years. recently useing efest 18650 2000 mah,v2, 3.7v batteries and just order them as needed. I am looking at an ivp mini vv.vw
and now there are 35A, 25A, hd, nipple top, flat top 18650 batteries out there. So I am confused, do they run at 35a? or are they just there if you need them?
Right now I vape at 8.5w, with a 2.1 ohm coil. I don't rebuild, just buy the replacement coil. With all these choices I do not know what to get with the new device.
just want to be safe and not turn my vaping device into a pipe bomb. Help!!!

You don't need to worry at the level you are vaping at, but you are using decent batteries anyway. They are really 20A batteries 35A pulse and we all know that sticking to the constant discharge current is best and 20A at 2.1 ohms would be 42V and 840W so I think you are well on the safe side.

To explain because I reread your question. No idea of your device but must be VW so you put your 2.1 ohm coil on and set it for 8.5W, the device will set the voltage to around 4.22V (none are 100% accurate but most are close) and even taking into account of chip efficiency this will draw 2.2A from your battery.

You don't need to worry at the level you are vaping at, but you are using decent batteries anyway. They are really 20A batteries 35A pulse and we all know that sticking to the constant discharge current is best and 20A at 2.1 ohms would be 42V and 840W so I think you are well on the safe side.

Quick answer yes.. Higher amp rating the better.. That is if you deal with sub-ohms in an unregulated devices.

High drain is like Marine battery vs a regular car battery. High drain (marine) will handle discharging and recharging battery better.

Batteries will safely handle the amp (current) discharge rates they are specified for. With a mechanical mod that connects the battery to the atty with no electronics in between, the power taken from the battery is determined by the resistance of the coil and battery voltage using Ohms's law. The lower the resistance the higher the amp draw on the battery and thus the more power you put into the atty. Same is true for a variable voltage mod, but you can vary the volts.

If you're setting watts, the resistance doesn't affect power output. The mod will measure resistance and set volts to output the power you set. Some of these mods go up to 100 watts and more and need 30 amp batteries.

The batteries that advertise 35 amps and above are IMO not actually 35A batts, it's just marketing hype.

ok, I think I have got this. right now I use a coolfire 1 (which I think is 8.5W) using the batteries I mentioned above and 2.1 ohm coil in a innokin 30B. So the amps I am using is 2.3. which if these batteries are 10a? useing less then 75% of the battery amp output. so it is safe?

but, for xmas I am getting as a gift a ivp mini 30W. vv/vw. If I use the same 2.1 ohm coil then I am fine with the batteries I currently have, and could go to 10w in the future and still be safe?

after seeing so many battery choices out there, I thought you needed a special battery for vv/vw devices. thus, the confusion..

Norrin, these are the 2000 mAh, v2, not the 2500 mAh. The V1 of these were rated 10A. I can't find anything convincing on the V2's. Are these really 20A?
Yeah didn't read it properly, from what I can find there is little difference between the V1 and V2 so they are 10A batteries, but totally adequate for what she is doing. Must read OP better :facepalm:

I believe the amp draw in the Coolfire 1 doesn't change with resistance because it it regulated at 8.5 watts, not at a voltage. It will be using closer to 3A because the regulation circuit has some loss in it. Otherwise, you got it :)

Again, if you set watts, resistance doesn't matter. 30 watts at 85% efficiency will draw 11 amps when your battery is almost empty, so your battery will start heating up. At 10 watts battery drain will be 3.7A. 25 watts is about the limit for a 10A battery. Personally, I would buy a couple of 20A batteries for that mod and know that I could use the mod at any wattage it will work at with no battery issues.

Illumination Supply has Samsung 18650 25R for $6.00 a piece. They are a known good battery supplier so you will not get any counterfeits.

Yes, you have been a big help to me. I will pick up some 20A batteries to use with this mod and be covered no matter what.
