Battery short circuit protection

I have just purchased a ViVi Nova tanks system and have seen online that the coil and wick portion can be rebuilt, instead of purchasing a new head for it. My only concern is the possiblity of creating a short circuit by having the coil parts touch. I have seen that the bigger more expensive batteries with the variable voltage have short circuit protector built in. I was wondering if anyone knows if the battery I use has the same protection, or will a short kill the battery. My current battery is an Ego C upgrade 1000ma passthrough. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yup, there have been plenty of eGo bats bit the dust because of shorted coils in CE4's & Vivi Nova's. The shot wipes out the chip (switch), not the battery cell.
