I'm getting conflicting information regarding the battery type to use on the LT. I've been told it only takes the flat top 18650 but i've seen numerous youtube reviews where they put in a nipple top 18650 and the cap screws on fully.

example this video @ 5:00 you can tell she put in a nipple top battery

and this one LAVATUBE + ODYSSEUS - YouTube

i know the ones that come with the kit are flat tops but what kind/brand do people recommend using?

Thanks

AW , the recommended brand does not make an IMR battery with a flat top. You need to use an AW IMR 18650. Protected batteries may or may not work depending BUT the only recommended battery by the manufacturer is the AW(brand) IMR(technology) 18650. I realize all this battery "stuff" can be confusing as I've been there and in some instances still doing that but the bottom line is: The battery recommended to use by the manufacturer is the AW IMR 18650....:)

Thanks Keeno, will the AW IMR 18650 allow the bottom cap to screw on fully? I've seen some videos where the person put in those batterys and due to the nipple top the cap does not completely screw on. I don't know why some do with it and some don't.

Absolutely, one of the reasons the manufacture recommends the AW IMR 18650......the LT was designed around the IMR technology and the size of the AW IMR 18650.

The 1600mah ones that is, I don't know yet on the 2000mah ones....Anyone know for sure yet ??

Same size......available now at provape.com....in stock last time I looked....they(Provape) no longer carry the 1600mah. Not sure if that's by choice but have heard the 1600mah is being fazed out....true or not I don't know.

The AW is a high-drain battery. The LT is a booster device that draws more amps to get the higher voltages... and the booster itself produces some losses also, further requiring higher amps. The IMRs are a different battery chemistry and don't "trip" at these high-drain rates.

Thus, I'd be curious if anyone used the protected batteries (and what one) at higher voltages and with what ohm atty/carto.

Would be good if someone could put together a list of suitable battery's for the Lavatube !! There does appear to be some confusion with the battery issues that keep appearing !!

I agree they should be posting that the recommended battery is IMR along with the product but some vendors don't know themselves. There's not much to it really. As long as it's 18650 LIMN Chemestry, High Drain aka IMR it's fine. Several companies make them AW, MNKE and BDL to name a few.
AW followed by MNKE seem to get the best ratings from what I've seen but others will work just fine.
Button top or Flat top doesn't matter as the spring should make up the difference.

I just ordered a LavaTube as well. Really excited about receiving it. It comes with the AW IMR 18650. The price for additional batteries was $11.99. But I have seen that other 18650 batteries - with a higher mAH - are cheaper. Like in the $6 to $7 range. Are the AW IMR batteries that much better? I want to get a few extra on hand so that I can properly cycle thru the batteries. Is it that much of a difference? Will the cheaper batteries not allow the vari-voltage of the Lavatuvbe to not properly work? Would really love to have someone answer that concern for me bfore I do purchase extra batteries?
