Battery voltage question

now I have a vision spinner that goes to 4.8 volts....the charger says output is 4.2 volts....does that mean it technically will never be able to hit the 4.8 volts it says?

Are you referring to the 4.8 volts on the dial? 4.2 volts is the capacity of the battery but it can produce higher voltage, it will run down your battery much faster and will eventually not produce 4.8 as the battery is depleted.

Most VV mods are "booster" mods. They draw extra amps and bump the voltage higher. More or less trading extra amp draw for voltage gain. This is why they want high-drain batteries used for those that have swappable batteries too.

As AttyPops explained, variable voltage and variable wattage APVs use boost circuit processors which are able to increase power to the delivery attachment above the voltage of the actual battery.

This comes at a slight price in battery life per battery charge. The higher voltage that you use, the faster you will drain the battery of it's charge.
