The info given in this thread by others is good..

That was a long time ago there was a debate as to whether protected Lithium Ion or IMR batteries are the way
to go. Certainly IMR with their safer chemistry is best, even more so at higher wattages.
Absolutely no doubt whatsoever.
Probably the info on the Reo Website hasn't been updated in a while... but no way
are Red AWs (these are IMR though as well) still the way to go.

A lot of improvements in 18650 batteries have occured in the past 5 years.

  • When I began vaping 5 years ago, all we had were protected ICR batteries (not safer chemistry, not high drain).

  • IMR batteries became available shortly after that. They were unprotected because they were safer chemistry, and were high drain. This means they are less likely to explode and have higher current than ICR batteries. Protected ICR batteries became obsolete for mod usage.

  • Three years ago, the 1600 mah AW IMR battery was considered a great battery (1600mah, 16amps), but advancements (more mah and more amps) thanks to the hybrid car industry have occured to where there are better options available today. Chiefly, IMR-hybrid batteries, also called INR chemistry batteries.

  • Today's better batteries (in no particular order):
LG 18650HG2 3000mah 20 amp CDR
LG 18650HE2 2500 mah 20 amp CDR
Samsung 18650 30Q, 3000 mah 20 amp CDR
Samsung 18650-25R, 2500 mah 20 amp CDR
Sony 18659VTC6 3000mAh 20A CDR
Sony 18650VTC5A, 2500 mah 25 amp CDR
Sony 18650VTC5, 2600 mah 20 amp CDR
Sony 18650VTC4, 2100 mah 23 amp CDR
AW 18650 3000 mah 20 amp CDR
Rob (creator and owner of Reo Mods) is slowing down and in semi-retirement, so he likely hasn't updated his website concerning battery recommendations in the last 2 - 3 years.

As others have already stated in a really good, clear manner with lots of references - you seem to be operating on old, obsolete information and some incorrect assumptions.

The mAh rating of a cell is to do with how long it will last between charges - you can't say that such a mod needs a battery of so many mAh to work - that figure will merely tell you how long a particular cell will last before it needs charging.

It's the Amp CDR (Constant Discharge Current) limit that's most important - that's the figure that matters - it denotes how much current can be safely pulled from the battery.

The cells I've used the most, and have had really good experiences with are the Samsung 25R (20A CDR, 2500 mAh) and the Samsung 30Q (20A CDR, 3000 mAh) - this means that the cells are both capable of safely delivering up to 20A, but the 30Q will hold a little more charge and last slightly longer between charges.

I know this post is old but I wanted to say that the information provided was very helpful, and assuming any members are still around, thank you.

I lost track of the forum for a couple years because I landed on this as a daily device but find myself needing batteries again finally which led me here right before buying some AW1600s again... Ordered a HG2, 30Q, and VTC6, wouldn't have known about them otherwise, so thank you.

Yes agreed as squonking is becoming more mainstream again and REOS Mods will be talked about more often it might be good to have some people talking about how the AW IMR 18650 3.7v 2200mAh button top battery that is recommended on the site IS NOT the best battery to use anymore. I was looking through all the info on REOS because I like my squonking to be .2 ohms and with the site info and the battery listed it makes it seem like you can only use a botton top battery which no one uses anymore and that .2 ohms isnt safe but it is on a single 18650 if I am using a samsung 25r or an LG HB6. I had to research hard that REOs mods could even handle low builds even after the internals were updated because all the videos showed people using CARTOS on the REO maybe 2 videos with RDAS. Anyway thank you for this post it was the only one I found that reassured me I did not need a BUTTON TOP 18650 for my REO
