I know people have talked about it before, but I need to highlight this once again: be aware of how much you are vaping, you can end up with some really nasty side-effects!

Yesterday I wasn't keeping good enough track of how much I was vaping, so I ended up chain-vaping and getting much more nicotine that my system was used to. Well, in the middle of the night I ended up wretching, so dizzy I couldn't walk, and having cold sweats so bad that it was pouring off me. Ended up calling 911 and spending the day in the hospital until they felt I was well enough to go home.

So just take this as a warning and reminder, especially for all those who are just starting out. Be very, very aware of how much you are vaping at all times. It might not cause an overdose, but then again it might. Don't count on being one of the lucky ones.

(Oh, and I have to say, please don't take this to be anti-vaping in any way or some sort of attempt at scare tactics. I just want to make sure no one has to endure what I did when it's not necessary).

...and you attribute a 24 hour bug to vaping exactly how?

Yea that's what I was thinking. I chain vaped with some 25 mg liquid. It was a bit to strong for me and I did start to get a head ache. Of course, I backed off on the nicotine and was fine. Getting sick in the middle of the night when you presumably are sleeping and not vaping doesn't seem to be a result of vaping.

I attribute it to vaping because there were no signs at all of any kind of bug (they checked just about anything they could possibly check when I was in the emergency room). Also, it was not a 24 hour bug, it was more like a 5 hour bug. And, I did look up nicotine overdose when I got home and all of the symptoms are listed right there (yeah, I know, I know, how do I know it's not a bug...).

It is good advice to try to keep common sense in mind when vaping, Lookin2quit is right on the money. I have gone a bit overboard in the past a few times, and it isnt pleasant, had I gone further it may have had me in the ER. It is important to listen to your body as much as possible as nicotine is only safe in not-so-large doses. 24 hour bug I doubt it, who knows though. I in smoking days have smoked way more than i normally do in a day, the usual 40 cigs, sometimes, and have woken up at night or the next morning with terrible panic attack. Same symptoms as described. Best to be careful.

Just doesn't piece together, what is this whack. What were you vaping, I'm assuming 36, were you drinking alcohol too? What did the hospital say to you when you told them it was nicotine poisoning, or did you even tell them? They never figured out what it was, yet they kept you that long? hmm.
Good point. If I may ask, what was the strenghth of the liquid? And moreso, what was the hospital's diagnosis if you dont mind? Im curious

Gosh that really sucks for you. I am really surprised that Nico. poisoning would wait that long to strike. You should have felt some symptoms before you were totally incompacitated. What devise and what mgs of juice were you using? I have had food poisoning that sounds exactly like what you are describing....ended up in the Mexican Infirmary and thought I was gonna die. I chain vap 36mgs with my Janty Stick or my Yeti or 901 on passthroughs and have been doing so for almost 3mos. I have never had this happen to me and I hope it doesn't. Better luck to you.

Was toxicology done by the hospital? I didn't see that you said you actually got a diagnosis?

I'd think that they would have done some blood work, and while I have nooooo medical background, I do know they can test for it.

I assume you told them you thought you O.D.ed on nicotine? Please tell us the diagnosis and tests that were run.

Studies so far show we ingest very low amounts of nicotine from even a high mg liquid since it is a vaporized carrier. Nicotine levels from vaping are lower and come into our systems differently than they do from Freebase nicotine in cigarettes. I know there are several threads about this on the forum.

Sorry but this just doesn't sound right Lookin. If I'm overloading on nicotine, my ears ring and I get a buzzy feeling way before I start to get ill (sort of like the good old days of chain smoking, ha).

Now, when I first started vaping, I swallowed lots of e-liquid and the PG made me ill... maybe that is it? PG will give you horrible stomach upset if you swallow lots of it (and when you first start or get a new e-cig model, it's easy to overfill carts, draw too hard, etc. and just swallow it, rather than spit it out, and clean out your mouth). Big lesson learned for me!!

Don't get us all wrong, we are concerned... but with as many people using the e-cig and this forum... If it were easy to OD on nicotine, we would see more big flags waved like this (and there just aren't many posts about it visits to the ER). It just deserve a bit of probing...

It was not from Vaping. Each drop of 24mg liquid only contains around 1mg of nicotine. You would have to vape at least 40 drops of liquid within a few hours to get that sick....and it would hit you while you were vaping, not later on after you went to bed. One tobacco cigarette contains 8mg (or more) nicotine & people smoke 40 cigs a day (320mgs nicotine) of which the body absorbs about 1mg per cig (40mgs per day). Regards.

Not to side track this discussion but does this mean there is more nicotine left in vapor than in smoke? Just thinking if it not as easily absorbed than maybe there is more nicotine in exhaled vapor than smoke. Also I never considered what form the nicotine was in. Are you sure it isn't free base? If not, is it nicotine hydrochloride or what?

It is cases like these that will lead to very high regulation of the products, liquid as well as devices, which is exactly why the government will say that, if e cigs ever gone mainstream, that the big tobacco companies will have to be the ones to monitor the products. This is because they will want to make it seem that they know best or doing it for the overall health of any user.

Not trying to be rude but I am sure it will come across that way... but use your head. I see from your tracker that you have been vaping for 2 days...

Nicotine poisoning is not something that all of a sudden appears, as I had gotten it when I was younger by chain smoking 6 cigarettes in a row when I first started smoking, so basically the same situation. New things are cool but there are reasons why cigarettes and e cigs are supposed to be sold to people at least over 18 in some areas and 21 in others. It's because it is expected that at that age the maturity level is high enough to use common sense....

But good to hear that you are ok :)
