Been away, have a question for the e-gods out there

So, I'm making my Christmas wish list and came across these AcryliMax Acrylic Variable Volt APV, Emerald (acrylic variable volt PV). Now it says it will run up to 6v. My question is, how does it do this with the batteries that it will accept? I assume some sort of capacitor or such, but in case i'm wrong, I thought I best ask before I forward my list to Santa.
