Good evening,

Have not posted since early December last year, I was in the middle of prepping for an upcoming surgery in January. I stopped vaping in mid December. I had my surgery as scheduled and all is going well. About 3 weeks ago, an event occurred in my life that created a ton of stress, and for the first time since April of 2012 I picked up a pack of cigarettes, long story short I smoked for about 2 weeks. Not sure why I didn't break the Reo out of mothballs first but what's done is done. I did get the Reo out this past Monday and fired her up again. She seems a little slow to fire, takes the coil about 3 or 4 seconds to fire up, not sure if I just need practice wrapping but anyway enough blabbering, this leads me to my question.
When I left off I was wrapping micro coils, with the coil jig and using thin pieces of cotton as a wick, what if any advancements have you industrious guys and gals migrated too since my departure? Should I still be wrapping micros? Using cotton? If there is something better I need to know, I may be vaping for a while again to keep me away from the stinkies and I like to stay current.

Thanks for any advice or input you may have!

I hope you have all been well!

Welcome back and hope you can get into the swing of things again! The biggest thing to change is the new sub-ohm kits ( now just rebuild kits) which make the Reos so much better! As far as coils, everyone on here will have different opinions as to what is the best coil. I have used micros, macros, loose spacing, tight, you name it. It's just something you will have to play with to find your sweet spot. Wicks are all over the place too. Many swear by cotton. There is a cool cotton product called Ko Gen Do. It's raw, sterile pads and you just cut what you need with scissors and it produces a nice, clean vape and lasts much longer than balled cotton. I have a wick of that going on now for 5 days and still doing fine. Another biggie is RxW, or ReadyxWick, a ceramic wick. Takes some doing to get it right, but it lasts a long time and dry vapes don't taste near as nasty as burnt cotton. Cleans like a champ. Dry burn it with the coil and it comes out sparkly white again. Get back with us again, and hopefully Reo and the good people here will help and encourage you back off the stinkies again.

Dude, where have you been???!!

Everyone is using the next best thing now, 8 wraps of 2 gauge Kanthal twisted into a celtic knot, and 3 strands of hair from a unicorns tail, braided by a virgin, for wicking.

Nahhhh, micros and cotton still rock :)

Hope life has evened out and glad you climbed back on the horse!

Hi!

Hope you're doing ok now. You're mention of "slow to fire" make me wonder if your Reo needs basic maintenance: Cleaning the battery positive contact, sanding, and some fresh Noalox.

It's my understanding the the new sub ohm contacts minimize/eliminate the need for contact maintenance. The upgrade kits are available on Reosmods but if you want to read up on what you missed that would be here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...echanical-reos-will-seeing-some-upgrades.html

As mentioned, clean the firing pin (top battery) contact, and check your screws are tight in the atty. Put in a fresh piece of cotton wick and vape away. Not a lot has changed really, many including me still use microcoils and cotton. The sub ohm kit (repair kit on Reosmods - used to be called rebuild kit) is only needed if you do low sub ohm coils, and if you get do get one, there is a couple of videos to show how to install it. It will give you more voltage at the coil, or you can wind an extra wrap on your coil and get a bit better battery life.
