beginners kits no good?

I'm seeing on the boards that the ones that look like regular cigarettes are a waste of money? I saw my friend's last summer & she unscrewed the filter to charge it & I think the white part was disposable after it was empty. I didn't see her refilling anything. I've seen pictures of honking big things that don't even look like a cigarette. I haven't bought anything yet but wanted to know if the feel & look of a real one would help someone just starting out? Then maybe switch to something better? I have no clue what I'm doing, lol.

I know many people who start with cigalikes(the ones made to look like a cigarette). Some moved on to better but some have stayed with them as they like them. It all comes down to what you like and what fits your style.

If you can avoid feeling like a huge weirdo, I would recommend skipping the cigalike step completely. I started with them and was fine, even back in 2012, but within a month I already had one of the early vv mods(Buzzpro lol). Anecdotal of course, but everyone I know who actually quit smoking, uses a mod of some variety.

I went from a Vision spinner battery with a clearo tank to a Vapor Shark rDNA 40 and a sub-ohm tank in a week.

Using higher nicotine, I was able to quit smoking using the cheap but reliable Vision spinner.

Guess I was just following the crowd when all the higher wattage devices and sub tanks came about.

Try an inexpensive device, for 25-50 bucks you can vape nicely, for a couple hundred you can vape like a maniac.

I started with a cigalike, but it was the kind you do refill, and recharge -- the eRoll. I don't think they're available anymore. But, although I *was* able to get down to zero cigarettes within a month of starting to use it, after just those few weeks of use I found out how aggravating it is to have to refill every .4ml and recharge every damn 15 minutes. I got a variable wattage device on my first full day smoke-free (an iTaste vv3), and gawd, what a difference! It was awesome compared to that puny cigalike!

In the summer of '14 when I had a smoking relapse, I did use the eRoll again briefly, to kinda confuse my mind as to whether I was smoking or vaping, but that's really the only useful thing about them -- otherwise they're sadly inadequate if not downright infuriating and huge waste of money.

Meanwhile, the folks I know who started with something like the eGo batteries and a topper of some sort are still going strong. Yes, there are many who who move onto to "honking big things", but i just spent a day with a gal who's quit cigs for a year using only an eGo 650, though I myself moved up from the 650 (after a few cigarette-free weeks) to a Vision Spinner 2 (also cylandrical) and -- eventually -- a tiny, honking thing.

One thing to note is that you will need/want to have backups for when you want to vape and your darn "thing" needs to charge. So, it's really likely that you'll want/need more than one device.

Some of the ones u think u can't refill you can. I know a few people who refill the mark10 carts. I know the battery life on them is pretty good. But with the availability of cheap vv/vw mods it kind of makes them pointless. All the people I know that have stuck with cigalikes or the little ego pen batteries seem to like them because they are so compact.

ABSOLUTELY! If you're really serious about vaping instead of smoking and don't want to give yourself any excuse to smoke, you need backups for your backup's backup -- this stuff can be cantankerous and unreliable, usually at the worst possible time, so it's always a good idea to have LOTS of backups.

Been thinking about getting a beginner's kit as well. not quite sure since some have said getting the more advance ones are better. But I rather have a small one that I can easily hide.

those cig looking ones I believe are called cig a lit/likes they are meant to be disposable if I recall. so you basically smoke them and dispose of them. I have heard many people saying they taste bad. those big things you are probably referring too are called vape pens/mods those come in various sizes/types. it's basically like buying cars. what are you looking for and what can you afford. these are VERY customizable in many ways.

I would say don't buy any cig a likes/lits stick to vape pens/mods and go from there. imo it has NOTHING to do with the feel of a real cig but rather the effect it gives you when vaping. most people I see start off with the pens but I started off with a box mod. really wasn't hard to get into after learning and asking a TON of questions on here. I literally bought my box mod in less then maybe a week without knowing anything on vaping in general so it isn't impossible to start off on mods I wouldn't suggest mech mods/RDA's though for beginners

I bought really GOOD cig-shaped devices, then upgraded, then upgraded again, etc...
If you MUST have something that tiny, go ahead - but almost everyone is telling you you'd get a better experience (vapor, flavor, satisfaction) from something with more power, longer battery life, and more ability to vaporize...
The "Ego" size is a good compromise. Or consider one of the smaller "box" style devices. You'll find it a fun hobby probably - plus you can quit smoking easier!

This place has a good rep, a lot of choices, and starter kits of all types - worth a look.

I 2nd getting a back-up. I started (and still use) with an ego one, 2 months ago. About a week after purchasing the first ego one I bought a second. Best thing I did. Having a back-up ensured I wouldn't head to the store to buy a pack of cigs while anxiously awaiting for my unit to recharge.

As an aside, I felt a little strange using a shiny, tubular "thing" at first but I got over fairly quickly. Anything to keep me off the stinkies

I've been tobacco free for over a year and a half now. I started with the cigalike, it was so awful and unsatisfying I immediately went to a ego type up unit. The batteries were awful and the charge didn't last. then it dawned on me, they make bigger batteries then 650 mah. so I moved up to a spinner. it still was not exactly what I wanted so I bit the bullet and went with the box mod ( I think you consider this a big honking thing) however IT WAS THE BEST THING I EVER DID!! I Still use a box mod today. the ipv4s. the two rechargeable 18650 batteries last me THREE full days without the need to charge them and I even chain vape. If your truely serious about quitting don't worry about your unit resembling a cigarette. Your quitting them, no need for a similar thing. I would go for the BOX MOD. They are easy to use, last a lot longer. are easy to carry with you and easy to use. It may seem strange at first but it will REALLY help you quit for the long. road. please consider this. I don't think the look of a cig a like will be of any extra benefit. I think if you go in trying to replicate smoking as much as possible you will be disappointed. It's for that same reason tobacco flavours are not really a popular choice. It's a different sensation, but after a week or so on a decent setup you will start to enjoy it way more than smoking!
