I'm seeing on the boards that the ones that look like regular cigarettes are a waste of money? I saw my friend's last summer & she unscrewed the filter to charge it & I think the white part was disposable after it was empty. I didn't see her refilling anything. I've seen pictures of honking big things that don't even look like a cigarette. I haven't bought anything yet but wanted to know if the feel & look of a real one would help someone just starting out? Then maybe switch to something better? I have no clue what I'm doing, lol.

Avoid the cigalikes such as Blu and Mark Ten. Those taste horrible.

Go to a vapor store and get a starter kit.

You want three things.

A battery and a refillable tank.

Explain to the store personal that you are just trying to come off cigarettes and you need a similar draw to a cigarette but adjustable for more airflow as you get used to it.

3. You need ejuice.

Standing outside in a blizzard, up to my knees in snow, in minus 40 Celcius to "enjoy" a cigarette? I got weirdo covered.
:D Don't worry, I think most of us have been there !

The 510 cigalikes didn't do it for me and it wasn't until I got an ego-type battery and subsequently a couple of iTaste VV3s that I quit the cigarettes completely.

Welcome to the forum :)

I agree. It took the Evod starter kit for me.

I suppose it depends on where your coming from - as in how big of a smoking habit your trying to replace. As a nearly 2 PAD smoker I was draining the battery AND cartamizer of the 'cigalike' I'd bought WAY to quickly - it seemed like I would need 1/2 dozen of those little batteries and equal number of ways to charge them to keep up with my needs.

While just about every quick shop store in town carried the devices, I could see the cost of the pre-filled cartamizers costing 2/3-3/4 what I was spending on analogs - if we add in the obvious waste of material (you throw out the cartamizer when empty) the 'cigalikes' may of been good enough for me to try and use but could not be a long term solution for me.

With nothing else to compare to some of the 'cigalikes' are not all that bad at producing some flavored vapor. Some folks like using them for 'stealth vaping'.

    I started with cigalike disposables.
Once I found I could use them instead of tobacco cigs, I tried a couple cigalike rechargeable kits, but for me, those turned out to be a waste of money mainly because of threading incompatibility issues, replacement parts etc.

To save money in the long run you got to keep your options open by getting stuff that is compatible with other stuff

Agreed and the first thing get a mod with a standard 510 and a tank with a standard 510 pin.

Would recommend against the tanks with the ego connectors. Yes you can get a 510/ego adapter but some of those have issues.

It's like I'm reading a foreign language here with the lingo. I don't know what any of it means. I found a few stores in Hamilton & will go check things out on my next day off. I'm in Canada, so the brands mentioned may not be available here.
I probably need something decent for home, when I have one smoke after another sometimes & maybe a smaller pen type thing for going out. Like I have around 3 quick smoke breaks outside at work or go out maybe once an hour if I'm at someone's house. I don't want to be packing a bunch of crap to take with me, lol. I don't care about home.

Just remember everything is subjective, taste, style, juice viscosity, and every other aspect of vaping. You should be able to find a lot of the stuff mentioned in this thread in Canada as they are sold globally. Be careful with local shops if you have them. Some of them do insane markups on everything. Some of them will try and talk you into a bunch of crap you don't need.

If you shop online I recommend shopping around. If you shop at fasttech I suggest paying the extra Buck or two to upgrade the shipping. The upgrade is free if the order is over 20. Something to note when buying from anywhere over seas. Anything with batteries or liquid can take a long time to reach you.

If you do get a pen type battery try to get one with pass-through charging. It will use USB to charge instead of the ego charger. It will also allow you to vape while it charges.

The cig-a-likes never really could hit the spot for me. Tried cartos with strength well outside my smoking intake at the time and still not satisfied. They were helpful for traveling, like say when I couldn't smoke in someone's car, or airplanes or airports, they'd stave off the nic withdrawals a bit. But as soon as I'd be out of the car or off the plane I'd light one.
