These tests below only note the ESTIMATED ratings for these batteries at the time I tested them. Any battery that is not a genuine Samsung, Sony, Murata, LG, Panasonic, Molicel, or Sanyo can change at any time! This is one of the hazards of using “rewrapped” or batteries from other manufacturers so carefully research any battery you are considering using before purchasing.

Misusing or mishandling lithium-ion batteries can pose a SERIOUS RISK of personal injury or property damage. They are not meant to be used outside of a physically and electrically protected battery pack. Never exceed the battery’s current rating and keep the plastic wrap and top insulating ring in perfect condition. Use of any of these batteries is AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Testing batteries at their limits is dangerous and should never, ever, be attempted by anyone who has not thoroughly studied the dangers involved, understands the risks, has the proper equipment, and takes all appropriate safety precautions.

If the battery has only one current rating number, or if it only says "max", then I have to assume the battery is rated at that current level for any type of discharge, including continuous.

    Test Results
This is the latest version of the Hohm Life cell, the Hohm Life4. It was surprising and disappointing to see that it performed a bit worse than the much older Hohm Life cell (I did not test the Hohm Life2). This Hohm Life4 cell has slightly exaggerated capacity and current ratings.

This cell ran several degrees-C too hot for its claimed 22.1A current rating. The data sheet lists an 80°C max allowed temperature but it reached 84°C down to 2.8V and 87°C down to 2.5V. I also use 80°C as a maximum allowed temperature for any cell. I am rating this cell at 20A.

The capacity of the four cells I tested was 2982mAh to 3076mAh with two of the cells not meeting the Hohm Life4’s claimed 3015mAh rating. Since the two low-capacity cells I have cannot be the lowest capacity ones in the batch I am rating this cell at 2900mAh.

Several other 3000mAh cells are also being (re)tested by me but based on my earlier test results the Samsung 30Q and Murata VTC6 are better performers than the Hohm Life4.

I don’t know why the Hohm Life4 cell performs worse. The drop in performance is small but normally I would have expected this latest version to outperform the older Hohm Life cell.
It’s still a decent performer though.

Four cells were bought for the purposes of testing by me.
