These tests below only note my personal opinion for the ESTIMATED ratings for the batteries I tested at the time I tested them. Any battery that is not a genuine Samsung, Sony, Murata, LG, Panasonic, Molicel, EVE, Lishen, BAK, or Sanyo can change at any time! This can be one of the hazards of using “rewrapped” or batteries from other manufacturers so carefully research any battery you are considering using before purchasing.

Misusing or mishandling lithium-ion batteries can pose a SERIOUS RISK of property damage, personal injury, or even death. Never use them outside of a fully protected battery pack and you use them at your own risk. Never exceed the battery’s true continuous discharge rating (CDR), never let it get colder than 0°C or hotter than 60°C, and keep the plastic wrap and top insulating ring in perfect condition. Never use a battery that is physically damaged in any way.

Testing batteries at their limits is dangerous and should never be attempted by anyone who has not thoroughly studied the dangers involved, understands the risks, has the proper equipment, and takes all appropriate safety precautions.

If the battery has only one current rating number, or if it only says "max", then I have to assume the battery is rated at that current level for any type of discharge, including continuous.

    Test Results
It’s been almost a year since E-One Moli was kind enough to send me pre-production samples of the P50B and now I can finally test their full production cell. The news is all good.

At both 5A and 30A the production cell ran for a touch longer and at a touch higher voltage than the samples. The temperatures for the sample and production cell were within 1°C of each other…identical.

From about 40A up to 60A the production cells did even better. They delivered about 11% more energy and were running for about 11% longer (before hitting the 80°C limit) than the pre-production cells. This is fantastic to see!

    Some other results and info…
    • DC IR measured 8.2mOhms for both cells. This is extraordinary consistency.
    • Capacities for the two cells was 4972mAh and 5005mAh. This is decent consistency but not great. The values are close enough to this cells’s 5000mAh Typical rating that I’ll be rating this cell at 5000mAh.
    • The standard charge rate is 5A and the maximum rate is an incredible 25A. Like all cells I’m sure that the cycle life will be shorter if charging at the max rate a lot.
    • Like the P45B this cell has a laser-etched QR-style code box on the bottom.
    • The P42A still uses a laser-etched alphanumeric code on the side of the can and does not have the code box on the bottom.
