Gave up on SS Mesh last night. Too fidgity, and I don't want to be breathing in carbon flakes... Darn thing kept looking like a BBQ grill grate. Threw some cotton in instead. It's a champ. Just tilt to keep it wet. Works great. juice is a 70% VG tobacco blend. Not a dry hit yet.

Edit: Dunno why I waited so long. I used cotton in my drippers 100% of the time. Why fiddle with mesh, when I know that I like cotton the rest of the time?

I picked up a RSST yesterday, as my second attempt with Genesis (first was a chobra that went in the trash). I have built many coils rebuilding the protank coils and my RDA so that is not a problem.

where i am having an issue is the dry hits. I have done one with a doubled over piece of 2mm ekowool. at various lengths inside the tank. and also tried the cotton method.

My coils have been 28awg. with a 5 wrap seperated coils spanning the height difference in + / - posts. and I also tried a 9 wrap of 32awg. with the coil squeezed together and barely off the deck.

it seems they will eventually wick up/out and give me one maybe two good hits then it is dry. after it goes dry I play heck getting anything to come back up the wick. I fed the cotton down thru the coil and into the wick hole. so it cannot be that tight inside the hole. towards the end of my temper I held the cotton build sodeways with the wick down and a full tank and went from wet to on fire with the vamo. so I am experiencing wicking issue for sure..

I will try Eddardins' blog idea tonight.. I am guessing maybe I am making the cotton to dense to preoperly work.

The right amount of cotton does make a difference, and can be tricky.

Keep at it. Everyone has their own spin on RBAs, so don't be afraid to try something new of your own to make it work for you!

What I have learned with cotton is less=more. When you make your wick (I use cotton balls) and roll the cotton so it will go through the coil after the cotton soaks up juice and warms it will expand and create a choke point slowing the flow of juice. It may slide in easy when you first put in through the coil but will expand allot after. Try smaller amounts of cotton, you will be surprised how little you actually need to get great wicking. I use like 6 wraps of 28 gauge kanthal around a 2mm small screw driver to make a micro coil that comes out to 1.2 ohms. There are many great videos on how to make a good micro coil but I just wrap it, slide it off the screw driver, pinch it together with some tweezers so all the coils are touching and then torch it till its red hot. A quick run under cold water and its done!

Here's my best attempt it somewhat appears to be working good. Time will tell thanks for the info.

I have not tried this method only because if I put the plug in the fill hole with my regular micro coil and cotton set up it does not wick well at all. I have a couple of RSST's so I may try it on one of them, or maybe my AGA T2 since it has enough holes for a double wick and still not cover the fill hole.
