I recently started vaping (3 days ago). I have a friend in South Africa who recommended I start with a Joye 510 manual, and also mix my own juice.

Obviously, I'm not an expert in vaping. But I have cut out tabacco completely and intend to vape only. So I want the best vaping experience possible.

My experiences so far:

1. The default cartridges that came with my joye 510, were not so great. I've since ordered better ejuice, and find its best to keep it full as possible. When it stops making a straw noise I add 2 drops, 1 directly on the atomizer, and another in the cartridge.

2. I could do with a better TH. Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but does stronger nic produce better TH?

3. Does mixing in glycerin give a better TH?

Is the joye 510 a good e-cig for heavy smokers, or should I be looking at another product to maximize vapour and TH?

1. try cartomizers. I've found that they seem to produce better vapor and TH. If you want even MORE vapor, try LR cartos.

2. Typically, everyone says that more PG in the mix produces more TH and more VG produces more vapor. From my personal experience, higher nic levels seemed to give me more of, not really TH, but more of a sensation of smoking if that makes sense.

3. VG gives more vapor.

If you were a really heavy smoker, you'll probably not be happy with the battery life on a normal 510. Try a Riva/Ego instead, if you are willing to put up with the increase in size. The battery will last MUCH longer and mine seems to give me more vapor than I had before.

Welcome to vaping!

The "best" for one person is not necessarily the "best" for another. Different attys/cartos have different characteristics and which is "best" is highly subjective. The 510 is one of the more popular models and is definitely capable of providing a good vape. A good choice for getting accustomed to vaping.

There's a good amount of info in this forum to help. DonDaBoom's Wonderful World of Vaping is epic. The ECF Library - E-Cigarette Forum

Welcome Michael,

There's nothing inherently wrong with your 510 cartridges, you just need to make a slight modification. Pull the filler out of your cart with tweezers, cut almost 2/3 of the filler off with scissors, fill the cart almost all the way with e-juice, then put the small piece of filler on top of the e-juice until it's flush with the edge of the cart. This is known as the highping cart mod, and it allows you to get much more juice into the cart, and the juice will wick more easily to the atomizer; a moist atty is a happy atty. You may need to add a drop or two of juice to the filler; it should look like a slushy. Add one or two drops of juice to the atty bridge, then vape. If you hear a gurgling sound and you're not getting much vapor, you've probably flooded the atty; take the cart off and blow through the atty from the threaded end.

I smoked 2 packs/day for 28 years, and I use a Joye eGo, which is a 510 with a much bigger battery. I use 24 mg e-juice which is working very well for me. The 510 is fine for a heavy smoker, but you'll have to recharge the battery every couple of hours. If you upgrade to the larger eGo battery, you'll need to get a charger for it.

Good Luck!

Hi Guys, thank you for your replies. I must say I love vaping, but I'll post my success story in the correct forum, so please read, and tell me if it sounds familiar.

You need 5 posts in the newby forum before you can post in other forums, then you'll need to wait an hour or so for your status to be updated. Post "Hi" to a few other newbs and you'll be there in no time!

A lot of people use alternative cart stuffing material in place of the stock polyfil. Blue Foam or Pyramid Tea Bags are commonly used. I like the foam material myself. Delivers liquid better, and the foam bits can be reused over and over, the polyfil bits don't last as long.

As you get the hang of things, you may want to look into world of battery MODs to really get the most out of vaping. Mistinthewoods mentioned HV vaping. Another school of thought is to increase current instead of increasing voltage to achieve more power. That's the route I've taken, hi-drain IMR batteries with low resistance (LR) atomizers. Accomplishes the same thing as increasing the voltage (higher power), but no need to stack batteries, so this can be pulled off with a relatively small single battery (16340 or 14500) MOD. More portable and safer.

Stalnakerz mentioned the eGo. That would be a really simple upgrade to a longer lasting battery if frequent recharging of the stock battery gets to be too much of a hassle.

I have the eGo, and the battery life is great. I was a 1-2 PAD smoker. I got two batteries with mine. The first one lasts until about 4pm a couple of drags every 10 min at work, and the second one lasts me almost until I go to bed. Just before I hit the sack is the only time I've smoked analogs in the last few days, and even then its 1 or 2. I'm thinking about ordering another battery to last all the way though the day.

In short: I highly recommend the eGo.

I smoked 3+ packs a day.

1) You will not be happy with a stock battery. If you are not 100% sure you will stick with vaping, an eGo is the way to go (longer life than a stock battery, a lot cheaper than a battery mod.) Otherwise, look into a mod. I have a Little Chuck but, if I had it to do again, I'd go with a big Chuck (or another mod that takes an 18650 battery.) Even a chain vapor doesn't have to change that battery more than once a day.

2) When you get sick of filling up your little carts (or even the mega carts), look into cartomizers. I once got 60 drops into one without flooding using the Taryn spin. (It's usually more like 40-45.) You can imagine how long I went before I had to add more liquid.

I prefer the ones with the soft, removable end piece. Pop that off and stick a drip tip on. I think Clouds of Vapor has the best price on cartomizers. Nhaler, which carries them as well, has an incredible selection of drip tips. Both have forums in the suppliers section of ECF.

Remember to check for discount codes. (If they have a short-term discount, they'll post it in their forums. Otherwise, check this master list.)

3) I don't care about throat hit so I can't comment on that. 20%-30% VG gives great vapor. Tasty Vapor is my favorite vendor for liquids.

4) Welcome to the "I-quit-smoking-thanks-to-e-cigarettes-club." We're getting bigger every day but we always have room for more members.

If you think the eGo might be too big, but need to go longer between charges on the 510 try the mega 510. Still on my first set and have a small mod on the way that will fit the 510 cartomizers and a 18500 :D. Plus a passthrough so I dont use the batteries up sitting round the house.

Got the MOD for fishing, no 110 outlet on the lake to recharge the tini tiny batteries in stock kits.
