so I recently went into a tobacco shop and saw a disposable electronic cigarette for 8 bucks. i figured why not!? and tried it . it was a square 82 electronic cigarette. Even though i thought it was ok, it really irritated my throat and had a harsh maybe metallic? flavor. I am not a very heavy smoker so i would prefer NOT having a heavy throat hit. I loved the idea of vaping so will be purchasing my e cig soon hoping to have a better experience.

started out searching and thought about safe cig, green smoke, etc.. but then found out of these other non big brand models such as the joye 510, ego t, riva..

my question is would i be better off buying one of the big name brands e cigs, or would i have a better experience purchasing the joye 510,ego t, or riva? and what are the main differences between these 3?

THANKS TO ANYONE WHO CAN HELP ME START MY vaping JOURNEY:p

Hi :)

The Joyetech stuff outsells as a whole any other individual e-cig brand. And it's because they work.

So the Riva, which is a knockoff of the eGo is just as functional.

Most people here do not use a branded e-cig. And from my own perspective, either and eGo or Riva 510 kit is an excellent place to start. Since the connection on the batteries are very common, you can try all kinds of cartomizers, atomizers, or non- 510 cartos/atties with an adapter.

I'd skip "name brands", and go right into what most people use.

Good luck!!

Agree with cozzicon. You will do much better with liquids other than what they put in the disposibles too. The throat irritation was probably due to that. The ego/riva kits are simple to start with and going to be an excellent backup if you get into mods later, too.

The difference between the 510 and ego/riva is size and life of battery. The 510 doesn't last long between charges but is closer to cig size. Ego and riva are just brand differences really, they are very similar.

...first off...welcome aboard, you have come to the right place!!!!!...forget all about the first ones you listed...any slimline ciggy look alike will have limited performance...the slim 510s and other such will give you 1-3hrs of continuous vaping time...the eGo/Riva/kGos will give you 6-10hrs continuous vaping time depending on the model...basically, your choices will hinge on one of two types of threading of the parts(how they join together)...the most common is the 510 threading and the second is the 808...there are others as well but hose two are the most common...there are 510 slimline models available from a host of vendors and for 808 models, the Elite, the Volt, the Bloog and V4l are the better of the 808 model...these will all have 1-3hrs of vape time, come with smaller batts(18omah to 380mah) and look close to ciggy size...the next step up and what most go for as a minimum. are the eGo/Riva/kGO sized units...these all have 510 threads are about the size of a Sharpie or a Havva-Tampa cigars...they feature a much longer vape time...upto 10+-hrs depending on batt size(650mah to 1100mah)...those are the basic starter unit out there...it gets a bit more complicated from here on up, so the main questions are...does performance outweigh looks and what sorta look are you willing to live with for that performance gain...let us know.............

Welcome ezbruacy. I tried that Square 82 also. It was very harsh but it satisfied my cravings so I then tried a No. 7 Apple disposable and like that a lot. That's when I started searching the internet and found ECF. I immediately bought an ego kit and then a Riva kit and have been very happy with both. You can't go wrong with either. Oh, and they are very inexpensive kits that you can get at Liberty Flights with the 20% discount.

Everyone who vapes has certain wants and needs from their ecigs and juices and that is why you see so many sizes, shapes, colors and flavors. Whats crazy is that those wants and needs change over time :) Right now, your best ecig could be ... a volt from SI or a V4L kit .. or a eGo.. who knows.. but after time, your wants and needs may steer you towards a box mod or a tube mod..

My suggestion is to check out "Best E-Cigarette for a New User"

Best E-Cigarette for a New User

Another great resource is Vaping Guides to the Electronic Cigarette

Those two links really helped me when I started my journey into the vaping world.

Those so called "name brands" are the rip off, and are just relabled KR-808's which can be had for just a fraction of what many of those so called brand names charge. Brands like Joye, Boge, SmokeTech, Cisco etc are the legitimate ones.
Go to the list of vendors here, and see if there is one that is local to you.

Tanks hold more liquid. But cartomisers already hold a lot more than carts. I'm very happy with my generic 808 and its cartomisers, with version 2 batteries - so both batteries and cartos last long enough for me.

Tanks have a certain bling appeal i suppose as one can usually see the liquid inside them, but look a little 'bulky'.

thanks! All of this information is a little overwhelming and i'm trying to understand from lurking around but it basically has come down to a 510 i'm just trying to decide on tank or not. How do cartomizers work? How often do you change cartomizers,do you throw them away or do you only keep one and fill it over and over? If anyone could clear up cartomisers and how they work/fill up that would be great.

and how do your guy's day to day(month to month) life go with tank or not?(are you filling frequently during the day/changing pieces, maintenance) etc..any thing that could help my decision on simplicity on my day to day basis. cheers..

I personally don't like the tank systems (although I have a Liquinator tank that is used with a cartomizer - just to confuse you further!) Cartomizer's are great, easy to fill and last much longer than the carts that come with most units. A cartomizer simply combines the cart and atomizer into one piece, with some fill material inside that holds juice. To fill you drip drops of juice onto the filler until it is well saturated, screw it onto your battery and vape away. Normal cartomizers need a few drops added on top of the filler every hour or so. You can use them about a week to ten days before you have to either clean them by one of various methods, or just toss it out and start a fresh one. I have an EGO and just started using madvapes Ego Mega Dual Coil Carto that holds about 4 ml of juice. Don't even have to top it off except a couple times a day! Good luck.

I agree with most of what everyone else said I am a cartomizer user myself as I felt the tank was more of the same atty type thing just larger than I had been using. I love the fact that they hold so much also. Ask 100 people and you will get a diff. answer on what works for them but I personally love my Ego with a carto on it good luck as you explore and welcome! :)

I have three jobs and three kids i do not drip I am always on the run somewhere and Love my 1.8 ml cartos as i can fill a few and not worry for a while. I am sure though someone else has advice on dripping lots of people love that as an alternative to an atty with a cart (they are usually filled with polyfill or foam i got tired of using those cuz I am too busy most of the time). If you look in the ECF library there is a LOT of info that details differences for new users on equipment and what is what with pics included for easy understanding. I started by looking there at the 6 part intro docs.
