I've found that I'm sensitive to PG, so I switched to all VG juice. When the coil and wick are properly soaked I'm finding it works much better: better taste, good throat hit, no side effects! Of course the problem with 100% VG is the viscosity. I've experimented with diluting with water and ethanol (and both), but honestly the taste and feel is much better with pure VG. In fact, I like pure, unflavored VG. No taste, great throat hit, no cough, lungs feel great.

The problem is what equipment can handle such thick liquid? Cartos are out of the question, but even top and bottom fed clearos are giving me trouble, even with some dilution. I've been mainly dripping, and even then it's tricky to avoid the dreaded dry hits. I'm thinking I need to change to a cotton-ball based wick since most other materials have trouble wicking my juice. I'm going to try building my own coils just to be able to use cotton wicks.

Anyone out there been through this? Any advice? I'd love to find a tank config that can handle undiluted VG liquid. Is there any hope?

Yeah, VG can be difficult. I use Kayfuns/cotton with high VG ratio juice (usually around 90VG/10PG) and they work great. Any quality RDA will work of course, if you want to go that route.

Hmm, never heard of Kayfuns. Are these basically bottom-fed rebuildables, or is there something else I'm that I didn't see? From the video I saw it didn't look like the wicks come out of the holes into the tank, so I suppose the juice comes through the holes on its own?
If that works well, and can take a cotton wick, it could be the ticket. Pricey though.

I have used 100% VG in cartos for over a year now, daily. I cut two slots and never have a problem.
My Russian 91% with cotton wick handles 100% VG just fine........had trouble with other wick material though.
Best of luck, you will find what works best for you!

Ok, sounds like the wick material is the problem, rather than the shape/style of the tank. Does anyone sell pre-made cotton-wick atomizers, or is the cotton too short-lived to make that practical?

Yes, they are basically bottom-fed tank RBAs that use vaccum pressure to feed the juice through two bottom slots to the wick. If the originals are too pricey for you there are some quality knock-offs of the design from what I've read here, though I haven't tried any of those myself.

EDIT: I have had trouble wicking silica on the kayfuns, but cotton has worked flawlessly.

Another tip would be watch a ton of rebuild videos to see if it is even something you would like to or want to do.
Some love to tinker, some don't. Rebuildables require a bit of tinkering and dealing with small builds at times.
Read, watch, learn, read some more, ask tons of questions and determine what suits you the best.

Ahh, the vacuum from vaping pulls the juice in as you go. Makes sense. One more question: the video I saw used silica wick and had 2 wicks about 2 inches long each, so the vapor chamber was pretty much full of wick. Do you use that much cotton in there? I imagine it behaves quite differently.

I use less cotton than I thought I would. About a single 1 1\2 inch piece. Seems to soak up the juice very well.
It needs to be changed out more frequently though, but being so cheap, not a big deal.

Kayfuns with cotton wicks are awesome for 100% VG. I was afraid of using cotton at first because it can burn if it dries out, so I use silica my first few builds. Even with silica I was able to get it to wick 100% VG using the "steam sandwich coil". Once I was confident that I knew how to build it without getting dry hits, I switched to cotton and love it.

The main things to remember if you do decide to go with a Kayfun style RBA:

1) Coil diameter is just as important as your wick setup. Start out with a bigger diameter(around 3mm), then work your way down. Micro coils are for advanced users and are very difficult to get working correctly with 100% vg.

2) Don't pack the air channels full of wick. You can actually get quite a bit of wick close to them, but don't want them blocked.

3) Don't get discouraged. Your first build is your first build, and odds are it won't be great. Keep at it and try different things, you'll be glad you did when you eventually get it right.

This is the silica build that worked for me with 100% VG. Notice that it's a 3mm coil.

Cartos can work like champs with high percentage VG. I've done it for nearly two years. Here is 95% VG, 5% water, 15 mg nicotine and no flavoring. The carto is Smok 2.0 ohm single coil XL with three or four punched holes. The carto tank is IBTanked.

I had great luck with thick, syrupy VG juices in my iclear 16, 30, and 30S back when I liked using clearomizers. Never had leaks, flooding, dry hits or wicking issues. I never used the heavy colored juices though, most of mine were more or less clear in color so didn't have a problem with accelerated coil gunk build up either.

Optimal vehicle for 100% VG juice would be an RDA, never going to replicate the flavor & vapor density out of any clearo or carto that you get with a properly built coil and wick.

Any rba/RDA once you get experience
