Scott, here is a really nice beginners kit that I always recommend. It's what I started with, and I still use it for back up. You get two ego batteries, 2 nice Evod clearomizers, and a charger. Everything you need to start except the juice.

This is a reliable vendor and ships free. If you enter the code ECF at checkout, you get 10% off, making the kit about $30. Here is a link:

Kanger EVOD eGo Full Kit - Vaping Me

It is not variable voltage, which I did not find a problem at all. You just screw on the topper, push the button and vape. Sometimes I think the variable voltage devices are more confusing to someone who is new anyway.

This is a good kit to start with. I've got 2 people at work to buy this (it was on ebay) .. When they got it, I took out the stock coil/wick and rebuilt it to 2Ω. I showed them how to clean it and rewick it. It's super easy, inexpensive and they don't have to keep buying replacement heads that are iffy as far as quality control goes.

A family member tried my vamo and wants to buy a smaller sized Evod type. What's the best set up for a beginner.Do any that size have VW? I'm not sure what VV does.It doesn't have to be an evod, just that size.Is an air control valve needed like with protank2s?

I think what you're looking for is the itaste vv v3 with is a small VW passthru battery:

Can anyone explain the difference between the previous evod starter kit and the one above? Besides the super cool new box?

The first EVOD kit that Buggainok linked has the single coil EVOD clearos. Kanger E-vod clearomizer

The EVOD kit I linked has the dual coil EVOD clearos, which also has a removable drip tip. - Kanger EVOD 2

Hmm...obvious newb here, but - single coil vs dual coil...what can be expected difference? I have the single coil starter kit and I'm curious if the new one is any better and how it's better. I might be gifting it to my mother who I think I might have converted after smoking for 40+ years. I love it tho and I know this is only the beginning of trying to get everything that's new and shiny!

The Aerotank can take single and dual coil heads. In my opinion, there is not a big difference with that tank using Kanger single or dual heads. In other setups the situation can be different, and then it depends on ones preference.

Note: I just mentioned the Aerotank because everything is the same but can run single or dual coil heads, so its easy to compare.

I'm not a beginner, but I still love this setup (it's my stealth vape at work :D) Also, +1 for VapingMe!

Itaste VV and an EVOD is still my favorite set up. I like the single coils b/c they're easily rebuilt. My husband still uses EVODS on our MVP (our first set up), even though I think it looks kinda silly, and we have a Kayfun clone! I've considered Mini Protanks, but I'm afraid I'll break 'em...I'm waiting till I HAVE to have a tank crackin' juice! (Gettin' close...craving MBV Cinnamon Roll...)

A dual coil atomizer head will usually
- make more fog,
- use up eliquid faster
- use more power from the battery (battery will need recharging sooner).
- harder to rebuild as a dual coil; (people just take out the 2 coils and put back 1 new coil; maybe next year somebody will make an atomizer head with a coil at the top and another coil at the bottom, making it easier to rebuild a dual coil).
