I have never used a genesis style atty and really want to. So, I don't want to spend a ton of money on one but can't buy clones or replicas. Just about the only clone I've been Ok with so far is the Russian as it is actually different than the kayfun and doesn't sport the kayfun name. So, what is the best 50 or under Genesis that isnt a direct clone of another?

The steam turbine looks amazing and I want it just off its looks, but it's up there in price. Gotta try a Genesis style before I buy the turbine.

Kraken but since you're opposed to clones go with the Smoketech RSST, it's got an insulated wick hole which means you won't have to deal with shorts if you're using mesh. I personally prefer the AGA T2 over the RSST but you'd have to deal with shorts on it, the RSST is a much easier build if you're new to Gennys.

Then I would stick with the AGAs. They're not clones. Promise.
AGA-T2 is easier to learn on but honestly the AGA-t3 is a superb tank. It's a pita to figure out, but it is the best vape! You can nail that thing and it'll keep going until the tank is dry. It's a center wick design, way different than most of your genesiss, but no tipping required.
I'd say it keeps up with tons of $100+ tanks for less than $50. It is not a clone. And I think you would still enjoy it even after picking up a kraken and a steam turbine. It's really it's own kind of thing, in it's own respect.
Oh. I rarely get a hotspot or a short with mine either. I'm not sure if the wick hole is insulated, but my wick touches the sides and has never given me a short.
Search around sometimes you can find them on sale for around $35. Msrp is $49.

suck it up and get a kraken. I love mine, though my drippers are getting more use these days. The kraken clone is really well built, the adjustable airflow rules, the wick holes are big enough that the deck won't need drilling for most subohm builds.

if you feel bad about it, just get the clone then start saving for a real one.

I'm not a big fan of the steam turbine. Small air holes, small wick holes, and the lip on the deck makes it a little more finicky to build. IMO it needs a lot of boring out to be a good high wattage atty, which I would hate to chop up a real one.
I can't comment on any others, only have those two and a nimbus dripper. I need more atties...

So just to be sure, the rsst is not a clone? If i enjoy the Genesis style I'll be buying a genuine steam turbine and a kraken. I can't bring myself to buy the knock offs. Would rather buy a budget Genesis that was created as a budget Genesis.

RSST is a clone of the AC9 if memory serves...

I don't need to start saving for a real one. I could buy a real one now if I wanted to. I don't want to suck it up and get a kraken clone. I want to try a non clone lower end Genesis to see if I enjoy the style at all before I go out and buy a 200 dollar atomizer. Not gonna get into the clone debate, I just won't put any amount of money on one. Just not my thing.

I think I'll seriously look into the aga genies.

Get a pyrex RSST. Insulated wick hole, spring captured center post. Super easy to build on.

I am a fan of the AGA-TD. It can be set up for either dual or single coil, each effectively, and I used a post insulator to plug the fill hole so it wouldn't leak on me. Short tank, short cap, simple design, tight fitment, airholes are still a bit too small, but that is it. My RSST on the other hand needed a huge airhole in a reduced chamber topcap and a shortened positive silver-plated post to rival the AGA-TD in single coil mode. But with too coils of ribbon over ceramic the AGA-TD is a monster.

Greetings; I'm about to buy my 2nd genny (I already have a Siam Cobra), and it'll probably be an RSST. Check out PBusardo's review: A PBusardo Review - Smoktech RSST Genesis Atomizer - YouTube

I love my Cobra, but I want to try a genny with a simple, single coil setup. There's more room between the negative terminal and the centre post, which I think will make it easier to wrap coils, which is something that's taking me a long time to learn how to do well. My other option is getting a used AC9, which seem to sell in the $60 range, worth considering if you can go a few $$ higher.

Another one to consider (although a bit outside of the stated $50 range) is the Curvamizer by Nhaler. USA made, and it is by far the easiest time I've had with a genesis by far. Got it to work well with both a mesh build and a cotton build, even with my fat, clumsy fingers.

Decent video on this page on the Nhaler site: The Curvamizer RBA Tank

All genesis style attys are "clones" of the original. Sounds like you are in search of an original authentic Genesis atomizer... GOOD LUCK WITH THAT! (How deep are your pockets???) That being said. .. RSST. Not a direct clone. The manufacturer went out of their way to distinguish from the original AND there are no clone markings. Add to it the way it helps with the learning curve (shorts, and oxidizing from top and bottom) and the price. .. I think it's the droid you are looking for. ..

That's like saying that all computers are clones of each other.
I feel like what the OP means is that it is not a design that is directly copied from any other design. For instance a kraken clone.

I think you're missing the point. All RBA's copy the first iteration of it's variation with slight differences to try and set them apart. Clones are generally 1:1 copies.
