For under $200 to get a full "setup," I recommend 101vapes based entirely on one satisfactory transaction I had with them. This was my 'setup' order when I got into mechs a full week ago (so take this advice with the requisite grain of salt):

Smoktech Magneto V2 (with adjustable center pin) - $37.99

Youde IGO-W RDA - $10.99

Efest 18650 battery 2000maH button top - $6.99 ea (I got two)

That leaves you about $135 for an ohm meter, charger, kanthal, wick material, drip tip(s), and liquid of your choice. For kanthal I'd suggest eBay if you're brave with your credit card info, Amazon if you're not; the vape websites usually sell for about $5.00/3 feet, amazon and eBay it's closer to $5-6/100 feet.

From what I can tell, that battery has a 10 amp limit which is too low. A sony vtc 4 or 5 would be much better. Also I would get an IGO W5 if going the IGO route because they are 22mm like the mod vs 20m of the original igo w

the best meh mod on the planet is the one I am holding in my hand rite now, Why? because my mech mod brings all the girls to the yard, my mech mod is better then yours, my mech mod is better then yours. Sorry couldn't help myself. For me its a Panzer I lucked out and found an Authentic still in the sealed box from a collector. It hits like a truck every time, looks fantastic and just about anything you put on it looks even better because of it. I have a king, Hades, and Magneto that are collecting dust The hades is the all copper mod and its a great unit just not as good as the panzer IMO.

As far as mechs go, i own a few. I like my magneto best of the tubes, but its the only authentic tube i own as well and i suspect that plays a huge part. I also have a clone private ver2 that works the way i want it to most times, but the metal is very thin and fragile on the extension tubes. I also have a clone Nemesis that I HATE, I believe its an hcigar but not totally sure.

I just got a Reo Grand w/ RM2 two weeks ago, and I'm not looking back. It's hands down the perfect device for the way "I" vape. That's different for everyone but my criteria was flavor, control, and minimal leaking. It meets those for me and I couldn't be happier.

Well, for better or worse, I bit the bullet and hit purchase on the following from myvaporstore.com. I might have paid a little more from them than some other sites, but I have been impressed with their prompt replies to my questions.

SmokTech Magneto VE Stainless
2 Sony VCT5 16850 2600maH flat top 30a
1 Kanger Aerotank 2 smoke
1 Replacement tube for the tank
15 1.5 ohm replacement atomizer heads for the Aerotank
1 eFest Soda Charger

(...and one bottle of Cin-A-Bun eliquid as a pure guilty pleasure since I have plenty of liquid but have missed my cinnamon fix.) :p

I'm not looking into building my own attys or anything of that nature. I'm just looking for something simple and straightforward.

Is there anything else I need?

Okay, after reading lots and lots and taking everyone's advice into account, I think I've settled on the Magneto from My Vapor Store. I chose them because they responded to every email I had with questions in under a half an hour. Can't beat that kind of service when I haven't even bought from them yet. I'm going to go with the Areotank II, but I'm uncertain as to what OHM replacement heads I should purchase. Can someone give me a quick rundown of the difference between 1.5 and 2.0 OHM in the way they vape?

Since you ordered a mech mod, you have to choose the ohms according to the liquid you vape; only you can do that with trial and error.

If you'd ordered a regulated mod, then you could have adjusted the voltage on the fly.

I wouldn't spend $200 on my first mechanical. I found a good Nemisis seller on ebay that sells a nemesis clone with all the pieces for every config. There are many ways to tinker with it from a kick mod to a magnetic switch. The nemesis itself is only $22 dollars. This way you can decide if you like mechanicals and changing batteries all the time. Worst case you can put a kick module in it and have something pretty close to a V/W SVD.

For a mech mod, I keep hearing about the Manhattan, so I decided to get one. I should be getting it soon.
I heard about that one too. It's a self-proclaimed "Competition" mod. It has no venting (or at least very inadequate venting). You should do some more research into it.

AmeraVapes threatens Todd: FastTech Forums

Edit: The screw that adjusts button throw must be partially unscrewed to allow for outgassing, not snugged up tight. I still wouldn't order anything from Amerivapes though. I consider their reaction to be over the top and reprehensible. (My personal opinion).

I got my Magneto from myvaporestore.com today. I have nothing to compare it to outside of the e-gos and the Halos I've been using but compared to those? I am impressed. So far I'm really liking the Kanger areotank V2, but I did change the 2.0 ohm atomizer head that came with it to one of the 1.5s that I ordered and that made it even better. I'm really glad I took the leap and I'm really enjoying this mod so far.

who makes the cin a bun eliquid you bought? is it your local B&M or shipped in? just curious because I love those flavors and pack juice has a great cinnamon roll flavor, but im always looking for more. hehe

I ordered it from myvaporstore.com when I ordered the rest of my stuff. I have to give them kudos. Shipping was quick, everything was in the package and it was packaged very well.

Id start with a kayfun as an atomizer.

I would not, building a coil/wick for a Kayfun is something that carries favor is not many can pull off. It takes a tone of practice and watching conficting you-tube videos. Frusting learning curve. Just get an aerotank and deal with the coil/head cost, its flavor is almost as good.

Yeah, I just went with an Areotank V2. I don't want to get into all that building my own atomizers. I just want straight forward and simple like my old Halo but with a bit more kick and durability. It's only been a day, but I think the setup I ordered is exactly what I wanted. I'm enjoying the Areotank. I've had no leaking or gurgling or anything of that nature, it's easy to fill, the heads are easy to change. I'm really liking it so far.

Dude definitly go with a rebuildable it'll take a lil while to get it right but nothing performs like a good rda on a mechanical. I'm the kinda person that loves ritual and the more involved I can get the better, I make my own coils, juice, and even working on my own mods. If your like me go with mechanical and rda, if not vv/vw with a simple cartridge atty will work.
