I've been trying to DIY and having some issues. Over a series of three months I've probably made 40-50 test bottles of various flavors from various vendors. After letting them steep for the appropriate times (fruit flavors a week or so and creamy flavors about a month), all my flavors are extremely muted with a bland taste.
I've done tests where I've prepared the same flavor with 5% concentration all the way up to 60% concentration in increments of 5% and still get the same results, barely tasting the flavor at 60% but with the same bland undertones. To test further I got some flavors that I know and love from Mt Baker Flavor and prepared them at between 15-40%. After steeping, I got similar results with the resultant flavors tasting nothing like I'm used to.
The only thing in common with all my juices was the PG/VG that I use. I purchased them from Vapor Shots. I purchased a small amount of PG/VG mix from Mt Baker Vaper and did a quick mix of fruit punch to test right away. I could taste the immediate difference as the flavor, not having been mixed for more than 10 minutes, tasted so much better than the same flavor I did at high concentrations with a week steep time.
My question is could PG/VG be the actual culprit (it appears to be in my case) and, if so, what supplier do experienced DIYers recommend for their PG/VG/Nic needs? Any info would be appreciated! Thanks.
