I think it would help us all if we could come up with short, direct to the point and non insulting answers to all the ignorant statements we hear about e-cigs. the goal here is to share our best short answers that get the job done so everyone can use them.

Statement: Electronic cigarettes are dangerous and even worse than smoking.
Answer: Over 40 scientific studies have failed to find anything wrong with it other than the occasional benign allergy to some ingredient of the liquid.
(I use this one all the time and it works wonderfully around here.)

Universal answer that could be added to any other answer:
Answer: Check out Casaa.org if you're interested in getting the real facts.

Credit toicemanistheking for inspiring this one:
Statement: A drop of nicotine containing liquid is dangerous/can kill you.
Answer: If that was true, you'd hear about people dying or getting hospitalized for nicotine poisoning with all the anti electronic cigarette propaganda going on. (extended for extra punch: ...You can bet the media wouldn't miss out on that one!)

What are your key answers? :pop:

Here's some of my favorite pithy facts about vaping:
1. None of the 4 ingredients of e-juice are or were ever regulated.
2. PG is commonly used in packaged food.
3. Nicotine occurs naturally in most vegetables
4. Vaporizing a liquid causes considerably less chemical reaction than combustion of plant matter.
5. Vape is esentially stage fog, and if it were toxic then rockstars, dj's and concert goers would be dropping like flies. Which they aren't.

Why the need to dumb things down for the ignorant? God help anyone that throws senseless anti e-cig headlines at me. Sorry, they don't get off that easy.

Let the "schooling" commence.

*Snicker* Yeah I can see it, me chasing people down in order to educate them about e-cigarettes. I really can! :D I've been haranguing the unsuspecting on tedious fine points of history for years, I can certainly do it with e-cigarettes. :thumb: It just bugs the snot out of me when people trot out complete fabrications as "truth." Call me pedantic, I don't care! :D

So I'm reading this thread thinking I need to find some compelling facts. Facts that I can use to educate and that will make the uninformed think. I'm going to start with my favorite.
- An FDA study confirms that PV’s/e-cigs produce less carcinogens than may be found in a liter of EPA approved tap water
- Eggplant contains as much nicotine as second hand smoke (source: web MD)
- According to the VA Attorney General it does not violate the VA clean indoor air act since it produces no smoke
- A study shows using smokeless tobacco forever is safer than smoking for one more month
- Main ingredient (PG) used in the liquid is also used in asthma inhalers and to carry medicine to the lungs of lung transplant patients

(source for everything except the eggplant: Vapors Club )

I think that's a pretty good start.

We've all heard ignorant statements being blurted out by smokers and non smokers alike. Perhaps people in your area are more or less indoctrinated than others. Maybe you have had at least some success shutting them up. The real question here is what are you doing about ignorance? Standing down does not advance our cause. Ranting about people blindingly repeating stupid BS (and god knows I love to do that) is not pushing our cause forward either. Victories are won by the masses and masses are not born as is; they are won over.

If someone want to start a thread to vent out frustrations about the ignorance on e-cigs, I'll gladly participate and vent some of my own frustrations, but for this thread, I'd like to focus on statements that have worked on getting ignorant people to shut up or light up (meaning the light bulb in the brain, of course).

Whoa, we need to print these out on cue cards! (kidding, just a small reminder card should help in my case)

It's funny you mention it. I thought of doing exactly that. Just slide them a business size card with a few real facts. If they are truly concerned, they should engage in a conversation. If they are just looking to hate, they'll stop talking (hopefully).

Especially when they do it with a cigarette in their hand. :D

Heh... it always amuses me when drunk people tell me that AA doesn't work. I just reply the standard AA meeting close: "it works if you work it." :D

But to any comments about e-cigs that I hear, of any kind, I have just one thing to say: "They let me quit smoking after 39 years of it, and nothing else I've tried ever did that." All the rest is just hot air.

i just say it's basically the same as Nicorette; that it's a type of NRT, just in a different form. I also always mention the similarity to the Nicorette Quick Mist Inhaler - which is pretty much EXACTLY the same stuff that is in e-juice, is also inhaled, and has been FDA-Approved as safe.

When I started the thread, I actually had the idea of making a compilation of the best answers in a FAQ style and adding some links to Casaa and other sources with the hopes it would fit on a business card (I ain't going to start carrying pamphlets in my wallet!)

you gals have some great ways to put it!

In my opinion, the only problem with that is every Nicorette product has nicotine, where not all e-cigs/PV's are used with nicotine. I feel we need to advocate/educate for both nicotine and non-nic vapers (or is it vapors?).
