Best starting kit...

Hey ECF people! I've been vaping for a few months, and have been on here almost as long, posting some things, but mostly reading and learning. I've gone from EVOD pen types, to an iStick 30, to a Mini Jedi, which I love. I've gone from CE-4s to the Aspire Nautilus, and am now running a couple of RDAs... Lots of changes in less than half a year to get to a satisfying experience, which I now have, more or less... Fiddling around with wicking material now.

To my question: I have a friend that I would like to introduce into the wide world of vaping, right now she's still on analogs, but I'd like to have her around longer than those allow... :) I have talked to her about this, and she would be happy to try something that might work better than the cigalikes she's had in the past, but I would like to start her on a path to success by setting her up with the best suite of equipment available for a new vaper. I'm thinking a regulated mod, and a clearo that includes a build deck for the eventual day she wants to start wrapping her own coils. It would also be nice if it was fairly straightforward equipment to use, since it will largely be new to her, but at the same time, I'd like it to be flexible enough that she won't NEED to invest in new gear for at least a few months, as is often the case when starting with eGo pens, or low watt mods. So, given the wealth of information you all have, combined, what, dear ECF comrades, is the best kit to put together for her?

What mod?

If it does not have a built in battery, which battery?

What atty?

What juices would you suggest for the sampler collection?

Does 6/12/18mg juice seem like a good place to start?

I await your suggestions with baited breath!

Still reckon iStick and mini Nautilus fits the bill.

Seemingly, many people only want to recommend subohm this and 100w that as starter devices.

I found vaping at 8 watts enough of a struggle. I think an eGo One or subox/subtank would have put me off forever.

(That's my thoughts anyway).

Hi @PlayingWithFire . I usually recommend the iStick 30 watt and Aspire Nautilus Mini for beginners. But.... The iStick 40w with temp control is like a dollar more and has more mah (2600 vs 2200). Then you wanted a rba in the kit (none with Nautilus) so I would recommend a Kanger Subtank Mini V2 (has .5 and 1.5 Vertical coils and improved air flow). But... Subtanks are mostly for lung hits. The first thing I did with my Subtanks was replace the wide bore drip tip with an inexpensive 510 drip tip, and choke back on the air flow a bit. I mouth to lung vape at .5 on my subtanks. But... you can get Ni coils for temp control for the Subtank (ok, not a bad but there).

But... you might want to get a mod with tc that has replaceable batteries. There are quite a few out now, and good prices too. But... they will ALL need an independent battery charger and a extra 18650 batteries. But... you really have decisions to make. :)

I started on 12 mg nicotine, as I smoked 2 packs a day of lights. I can't advise where she would start.

Good luck in your journey.

Let you friend try your iStick with the Nautilus. See how she likes it. Then go from there.
Does 6/12/18mg juice seem like a good place to start?
A "general guideline" for nicotine concentration in e-liquid to the number of cigarettes smoked per day. If you are subohming (resistance under 1.0Ω) cut these nicotine levels by at least 50%.

06 mg = 10 cigarettes or less
12 mg = 20 cigarettes
18 mg = 30 cigarettes
24 mg = 40 cigarettes

EHpro Morph tank accepts all of the following and has a build deck:

ATL Adaptor: Atlantis 1.0 Coil, Atlantis 2.0 Coil, Triton Coil, Super Tank Coil, Melo Coil

DEL Adaptor: Delta II Coil (Kanthal, Ni and Ti Delta II Coils)

SUB Adaptor: Subtank OCC Coil (Kanthal, Ni, and Vertical OCC). (Does not fit the Subtank Rebuildable Section)

You can read more about it here: http://www.eciggity.com/morph-tank-by-ehpro-eciggity/

IPV D2 or Cloupor Mini Plus (auto Joules for TC) would be her best bet for a 1st mod. I wish someone told me the same when I first started--I would have saved a lot of money!

gearbest.com has a good deal on 4x Samsung 18650 batteries for $15. They also have the IPV D2 for around $42 and the Cloupor Mini Plus for around $35. They also carry Xtar VC4 battery chargers which I also recommend. Nitecore Intellicharger battery chargers are also very good--I have both.

Let me do you a huge favor and introduce you to the subox mini kit... You get a tried and tested tank the option of vaping above ohm, sub ohm at .5 and the RBA deck to have a crack at building your own. I ordered one from fastech for 53$ for a friend and he loves it. He originally wanted to stick with the 1.5 ohm coil but when it was finally burnt he tried the .5 ohm coil. Now he is sub ohm vaping at 35 watts...

I have every tank... seriously TFV4, crown, Arctic, herakles, atlantis, atlantis 2, atlantis mega, triton, ISUB, ISUB G, EH PRO Morph tank, SMOK Gimlet, Lemo drop, kayfun... and every mod... istick 100 watt, 50 watt, 20 watt, MVP2, MVP 3.0 pro, Innokin Disrupter, Sigeli 100 watt, cloupor mini, ipv 4, aspire CF sub, Vic mini... I am not listing everything or the RDAs..

I take my subox mini out with me offshore for two weeks with a pack of coils and of course a back up tank and mod. The subox has never failed me, the flavor on the new vertical coils is amazing.

my second suggestion and my back up mod... sometimes my all day mod is the innokin MVP 3.0 pro kit that comes with an isub G tank... any long time user will tell you the MVP is an old favorite since the original MVP and it is damn hear bullet proof. the isub coils are great even at 25 watts, and so so easy to rewick with a piece of cotton.

just my opinion... also the istick 50 is a great little mod with great battery life... but the failure rate on them is higher than on the MVP or subox mod from what I have seen from users I work with offshore.

Bringing batteries into Canada from China takes a month of Sundays or more. Unlike you guys in the US we don't have any fast postal shipping options for batteries. He is better off picking up batteries from a Canadian Online or locally at a B&M.

Many have had issues with GearBest in the past and I do not recommend them over Fasttech, Focalecig or 3NVape.

ah, I didn't pay attention to his location. As far as gearbest goes I haven't had any issues with them, but I guess it doesn't mean others haven't. Still, my recommendations remain the same as far as equipment.

Still reckon iStick and mini Nautilus fits the bill.
Yep, that's what I started with after doing too much internet research and never regretted it even though the Nautilus now sits unused*, but that's because I learned what *I* needed/wanted from vaping with it and upgraded accordingly. It's simple, leak proof, and provides decent flavor and vapor. With my iStick 50 and the Nautilus I was able to vape away happily until I became comfortable enough with the process to move onto RTAs and, eventually, DIY juice. And for someone moving straight from cigarettes to vaping, the restricted airflow will likely be ideal for the short term.

It's really all you need at first. A relatively inexpensive mod that gives you room to grow and simple plug and play coils that are inexpensive compared to the newer fancy schmancy stuff coming out and gives you time to play around with how adjusting wattage affects flavor and feel. If I'd started with some sub-ohm juice guzzler that took $5 coils I doubt I'd have stuck with vaping.

* The Nautilus will live again this winter when we take a family trip to Disney. Going to load it up with a higher PG DIY juice with about triple my usual nic and run it off an Aspire CF mod I still haven't purchased yet (need to carefully meter my gear purchases so my wife doesn't hit me in the head with a tire iron lol). Will allow for infrequent stealthy restroom vaping and no need to walk around the park with cotton and scissors in case of a wick singe, just bring an extra coil and a small bottle of the park juice and good to go. That way my usual setup will be waiting back at the hotel when the day is done :D

Wow! Thanks for all the great replies, folks!

If I still had my iStick 30, I would give that to her, along with my Nautiluss (Nautili? I have both the mini, and the full size), but I sold my iStick to someone a month or so ago, I wasn't in love with he 0.5 ohm floor, or the relatively low ceiling on wattage... Whatever else I give her for an atty, she'll be getting both Nautilus, suitably cleaned up, since they served me well, but have been on the bench for FAR too long for me to pretend I expect to need them any time soon.

I'm personally running 6mg 50/50 juice on a twin coiled RDA, for 0.2 ohm, at 30 watts (.24 G A-1 Kanthal, 5 wraps each at ~2.4mm ID) on a Mutation X v4. I'm really happy with that, but she just about chokes on the clouds that chucks, even with he air shut all the way down, and a standard 510 tip. I run it wide open, and take it straight to the lungs, so, different strokes, right?

I would not mind giving her something with a TC option. I have not played with it, but it would be cool if she had that available to her.

I want to stay away from parallel battery set-ups, I want to give her something safe and easy to start up with, and I know the charging sequence for batteries run in parallel is something that requires some attention. If she got the batteries mixed up, and there was a failure that got her hurt... I don't even want to think about that.

Has anyone put much time in an iStick 40w TC? I love my Mini Jedi 50w, but I also loved my iStick 30w for everything BUT it's lack of head room. If the 40w TC is a solid piece (better track record than the 50w, for example), I might pick up one for each of us.

The MVP 3.0 Pro kit looks awesome, and the iSub G tank looks like a solid sub ohm option to put against the Nautilus. I use RDAs for everything, everywhere, but I agree that this is NOT the way to start, a certain amount of knowledge and comfort is required before diving down THAT rabbit hole, no matter how tasty, cloudy, and almost infinitely adjustable they are.

I got it because I have lots of atlanis coils laying around and I regularly use the subtank... I immediately set it up for the subtank coils and its a better tank than the stock subtank mini... a little better airflow... It is a good tank, I use it regularly. I wish it was a top fill though.

The Isub G is nice... I have two and two regular ISUB tanks... I think I prefer the .5 ohm coils over the .2 ohm coils... What I like is the flavor and vapor at 25 watts, and they are easy to tear down and rewick, and pretty easy to recoil. I put .5 ohm ni200 coils in mine and they actually beat the stock coils.
