I am looking to buy my first temp controlled mod. I am just trying to get a handle on the best options out there in this price range. Currently, I am considering:

Joyetech EVIC-VTC -- I have concerns regarding Joyetech quality control

IPV4 -- I have one 18650 battery, but with the purchase of three additional batteries this is pushing out of the price range I would like to stick to

IPVD2 -- seems very plasticy looking and not much reviews yet

Eleaf iStick TC40W - I have concerns about Eleaf quality control

Innokin iTC - I love Innokin but no release date or price specified as far as I can tell, and it seems like it may only work with a proprietary Innokin tank if I am understanding correctly

I was just wondering if there are other options out there I am missing, or if anybody had any advice in regards to the devices I listed. Thanks.

I own all four of these among others (rDNA40, SXMini M) so i think I can speak fairly regarding these...

Evic VTC- initally liked this one until I discovered it doesn't truly lock the atty resistance and after 2 weeks of use the jog dial on top went bad.

IPV4 - is very cheap feeling IMHO (plastic) and had the display go out after about a month of use.

iStick TC40W- does not read resistances as well as my other TC mods, vape is much weaker than others and the battery life is lousy. BIg disapointment for me.

IPVD2- Been using this as my main mod for 3 weeks now and absolutly love it. Device is actually all metal, comes with a nice rubber sleeve and just plain works the way you'd expect it to. Bought it as a daily beater for work but I ended up using all the time. Works very well in Watts or TC mode just like my vaporshark and SXMini. Hits hard in both modes and the battery life has been steller. I get about 9 hours running at 45 Watts and 11-12 hours running at 480F 30W in TC mode.

Highly recommend the IPVD2, hate to see someone waste money on other mods like I did looking for one that works well.

Just wanted to add that I go thru about 15ml a day for reference. Hope the info helps.

Right behind you...
Another happy D2 user here, no complaints other than the paint durability is not the best (but the included silicon sleeve mitigates that). Feels good and solid in the hand, works like a champ.

Regarding the eVic Mini, Joyetech QC is among the best of all the big Chinese manufacturers. Had the eVic Mini been on the market a few weeks ago when I bought the IPV D2, I would have had a tough choice.

I'm starting to lean towards the Joyetech. I really like the looks of it and the slightly larger form factor. Plus efun where I plan on ordering from has a two month warranty for whatever that's worth, if there are any issues.

Will the Evic mini be capable of running any of the main tanks in the market (subtank, arctic, herakles, starre...), or are there certain ones that will shine? I know some of the tanks have recommended wattage ranges, but I'm planning on using temp control so I don't know how that works.

Honestly, I don't have time to look into all this stuff. This e cig business has gotten so complex since I started, I can't keep up. I just want something that works, is affordable and reliable, but there are so many options out there and so much junk mixed in between the gems it's practically impossible not to spend hours researching this stuff when trying to make a new purchase...

get real dude, I am looking and learning. The e cig industry has been and continues to be ridiculously fragmented, unregulated, China dominated, with countless fly-by-night companies selling items that could potentially be bombs you are vaping up two inches from your nose. Perhaps researching e cigarettes is the highlight of your life, but for me it just a tool I use not to smoke cigs, and I don't have the time or want to spend endless hours reasearching this stuff. I think vapers and "the cause" in general would all be served well by a consolidation and more regulation in the industry, but that's just my opinion.

That said I've already spent at least 30+ hours reasearching this purchase, so take the internet sass elsewhere

I don't know anything about the Innokin one, but would expect it to be a quality device considering their track record. As for the rest? None of the others have a remotely good track record for quality.

Oh...and some other food for thought

To our valued customers and partners,

It is with deep regret that we here at asMODus will no longer be offering warranty services for all versions of Pioneer4You products as of JUNE 30th 2015.

Although we were contracted by Pioneer4You to provide warranty service throughout the US, we were doing it with no financial restitution. We were happy to repair devices for the vape community free of charge as long as Pioneer 4 You provided us with the units necessary to do so. As theamount of broken devices began to rise and more requests for repairs came in, we were not provided with the same correlatively needed increase in the amount of parts, tools, and units necessary for repairs and replacements. This insufficiency in supplies has caused great delays in us being able to resolve issues in an accepted amount of time.

Here at Asmodus, we pride ourselves in maintaining exceptional relations with the retail shops along with all the consumers. However, we feel that this situation in shortage of stock which therefore caused delays has hindered at that relationship in which we hold highly.

Since this announcement has been sudden, we will honor warranty requests for Pioneer4You products sent in with a postmark on or before June 30th. After this date, we will not accept Pioneer4You products; anything received after this date will be promptly returned to sender.

We hope that this change in our services does not greatly inconvenience you. We are incredibly thankful for your continued patience and support. We look forward to continue serving you and the entire vape community for many more years to come.

^^^ another case in point...

And yeah, that's why I'd like to order an Innokin. I know they make good products for a fair price. I think I might just order a Cool Fire and be done with it just for that reason.

Following up on my last post.. I open up the IPV D2 thread and this is the first post I see

That is the problem, we all use various tanks with their own little quirks to overcome. We also have our individual expectations.

My SX mini is running the Dual Coil:
Orchid v4 style tank
Ti200 28ga.
2.5mm wrap 8ea.
Rayon wicks
settled at .101ohm originally .076
26.5J/415F

The D2:
Ti Grade1 26ga.
Single 2.5mm 7/8 wrap
.33ohm
Rayon wick
AFC full open - screw installed
LFC 1-2 turns
27.5J/425F

The average person isn't looking for a science project, just a safe alternative to cigarettes. Some may become enthusiasts, but most of us just want something that works and doesn't leave us craving cigs

They are talking about TC in that post. Its a science project with any of them its just where TC is at today unfortunately. Innokin makes great products and I recommend them also. I ordered a friend the Cool Fire 4 a couple months ago and he loves it. Its a nice little mod you cant go wrong with that one either. The Disruptor looks good too. If you want a device that does TC I still recommend the D2 as its powered by a Yihi board and they are rock solid. And it works great in power mode with kanthal too. I cant really comment on the Evic other than it looks nice.

Another recommendation

We purchase these Mods. We get serious in checking them out and make serious recommendations on Functionality and Build Quality - NOT HYPE

We cannot tell You what is the right choice FOR YOU only what is a good consideration.
Ultimately YOU have to make that choice. We just want you to Be Prepared.
