Alright, I need to get one. And I know this is a horrible newbie question.

I know, I know. I will soon.

But I just want to know if anyone has any tips, or knows how to make a diy atomizer so that I can try new liquids?

I was burned (figuratively) by getting BWB's Espresso. I love BWB, do not get me wrong, but their Espresso is not for me. I don't want to throw it away, but I wish I didn't ruin a carto with something that I don't like at all.

So, a little help is appreciated.

Could you not buy an atomizer? An LR306 and drip tip is probably a good choice and cheap. Or a bit more expensive but a basic rebuildable atty (that is one where you replace the coil and wick yourself) for dripping can be found here - Phoenix Rebuildable Atomizer

It is possible to make your own atty, but it's really beyond the scope of what can be put in a single post (try the modders section of the forum). Also I believe I've seen some "ghetto" dripping atties made by removing the filler from certain types of carto, just leaving the coil and a little bit of wicking material. I guess a bottom coil type carto would probably be best for this. I've seen it somewhere in the forum but can't find it right at the moment...

Yeah, the plan is to get an 808 atty (I have a Volt, soon to be the X2 batt as well) but I was just wondering in the short term.

I was thinking about taking out some poly and making a really sketchy one, but I also don't want to hurt myself or the ecig.

When I decided I was going to try dripping, I didn't want to run out and buy an atomizer to do it. I had a Kanger horizontal coil carto left over in a box, so I took the Kanger and pulled the stuffing out of it with a pair of tweezers, then I pulled the little tube out of it too. Dripped into it and realized exactly what I was missing! Vaped my face off dripping into that Kanger the rest of the night. Next day I drove to the Brick and Mortar shop, bought myself a 306 atty and never looked back.

I love Kanger horizontal coil cartos. If I want to taste something I can just drip into the bottom via the air hole 3 drops and not get any batting involved at all. Works for something fast.

Having said that I always have a couple on something, SB, Helix, etal. I use what I call a flagpole Kanger in my Gripper. (super long Kanger).

Because of the way they are constructed with no batting touching the coil, just that wisp of fabric between the coil and the batting I get none of the dreaded 'filling' taste in my juices, and Kangers last a loooooong time.

When I'm in lab rat mode making juice I use Empire 1.5 LR bridgeless atties on an Ego Twist at 4.2 setting to taste. I'm going to be vaping said juice in that general range and in a carto most often so I make the juice a tad stronger in flavor. Not all juices are heat friendly so I check for that before I build the real batch with a test batch first.

YMMV

The first batch of Kangers I had must have been defective, the batting was touching the coil. Monday I decided to give cartos another try and picked up a new box of the Kangers. Better than the first batch I had and no "filler taste". I still prefer my atties, the cartos are my backup for if the atties pop.
