I dropped by my local vape shop last week and they had some Halo Kringles Curse bottles out on the counter on sale real cheap. So I tasted it and thought it would be a nice minty change. So I filled a PT II mini tank with it and vaped it a little. Too minty, I thought so I drained the tank and washed it out, gave it a 91% alcohol bath and popped the coil into my bottle of 91% alcohol that I soak my coils in. So, I popped a new coil in the cleaned tank and added some different juice and I could still taste that minty flavor in the new juice. OK, I'm thinking I didn't get the tank good and clean. Repeated the cleaning procedure, put in a fresh coil and still with the mint flavor. ...!! So, I just let the tank sit and kinda forgot about it. Meanwhile, I get my old coils out of the alcohol soak, about 8 of them, dry burn and add a flavor wick and store them in the bag where I keep my refurbished coils. I go to get a coil out and notice that mint smell in the bag. Can't be, right?? Wrong!! I put one in a tank of juice and there's that danged mint again!!! Now yesterday, I get some vape mail with a sampler pack and I want to try out the new flavors, none of which are minty. So, I clean out 3 PT II minis, putting them all together in an alcohol bath (yes, I put the Kningle tank in there too) and after a soak and hot water rinse, I put brand new coils in and all 3 tanks are now minty. This stuff has some kind of nuclear half-life. It's infecting everything I have!! Luckily, it hasn't gotten into my PT II's yet, but it's only one absent-minded coil change away, I fear!! I have put all of my old coils into a fresh alcohol bath and hope this Kurse will somehow be gone. I'm afraid to dump the bottle of Kurse juice as it could possibly get into the water system and the whole areas drinking water could become minty!! Anyone have any ideas how to end this minty madness??

Ugh! I had this happen with a banana flavor (turns out in a vape - i HATE banana which made it worse!!)

I can tell you what I did (albeit slightly ridiculous) Once everything I had pretty much ended up with a hint of banana taste - I threw out all banana tainted (even if only by soaking association) coils. I soaked all non direct banana tanks and bases in 91% alcohol changing it every day for about a week (this plus new coils solved that banana contamination).

I soaked the directly banana accosted tank in a separate container of alcohol the same way for a week - IT STILL SMELLED LIKE BANANAS. So I started trying hot water soaks, boiling water - anything. I finally soaked it overnight in high proof bourbon (Makers Mark) No idea why - but that is what finally got rid of bananas....lol. I have no idea if this will work with mint - but I feel your pain. I was ready to have a meltdown and just throw everything away

Menthol and Radiator Pluid are "perment" atty and tank tainters. I've been able to get the flavor out of (repeatedly cleaned) attys and tanks by vaping about 3-6 ml of juice through them. :(

It's not a fun process. Now I keep a dedicated tank for the rare occasions I vape minty flavors. I have several for Pluid :D

When you say "91% alcohol", you mean, "91-proof alcohol", right? ...you surely don't mean you are cleaning your coils in 91% Isopropyl alcohol, right????

The only 'alcohol' you should be using to clean coils is the clear, neutrally-flavored, consumable kind - high-proof vodka or Everclear.

Not an option, I'm a recovering alcoholic. But if I could, what's the difference in using booze and regular alcohol??
Any other ideas?? I've got to get this Curse lifted!!

I've had pretty good results using a 3-stage soak procedure:
Starting with a hot water rinse, then an alcohol soak, then a vinegar soak,
and then back to a second alcohol soak, and doing a hot water rinse after each soak.

Yeah, vinegar, that might be the ticket. I've got some Braggs Apple Cider vinegar that might do the trick. Thanx for the reply!!

I too am a recovering alcoholic and use vinegar to clean my tanks and coils. I tried apple cider vinegar and found that it too leaves a flavor behind. It's not as overpowering and doesn't stick around as long as what you're experiencing, but it can persist and permeate through the first couple mL. It really depends on the flavor you use immediately following cleaning. My first experience with it was with a tobacco flavor and it the first 2 mL were wretched and the smell was horrible!
Just be sure to rinse as thoroughly as possible after using vinegar, and unflavored if possible.

I thought it was a nice change to see an American use a system of measure that makes sense. (Not too serious. Just about 7/64ths seriousness intended) ;)

I'm just curious what you have against using isopropyl for cleaning? It has a pretty high vapor pressure, meaning it will evaportae quickly, and should leave no residue once it has evaporated.

Well, I'm no chemist or a doctor, but it doesn't seem wise to clean your coils (that will eventually hold liquid you will be vaping on) with a product that isn't safe to consume. No matter how well you rinse it off afterwards, Isopropyl Alcohol doesn't evaporate completely (there's a filmy residue left behind) and it doesn't break down completely in water. It just seems risky to me.

For options, try salt and hot water ...or baking soda and hot water.

A. I liked Kringle's when I tried it. I got a sample bottle a long time ago.

B. I use 91% Isopropyl. Have from the beginning. When I clean coils, I rinse, dry burn, soak in 91%. I leave them there a while, swish them around a bit, then rinse in REALLY HOT water several times and let them dry.

Any time I've had a flavor that was hard to kill, like cherry, I repeat the soaking process 2 or 3 times. I might get a hint of that flavor in the beginning, but if I vape through it, it'll get cleared up with the new flavor after a half tank or so.

Glad you're here ;)

91% Isopropyl Alcohol does leave a residue when it evaporates, but 100% pure Isopropyl Alcohol may not - I'm not sure.

I don't have a problem with using it as a cleaning agent ...providing the something I'm cleaning isn't something I'm later going to vaporize liquid into microscopic particles with and ingest into my lungs.

Maybe I'm just being overly cautious.

Appreciate the reply!! I've moved everything out of the Alcohol and have it in a vinegar bath now. I'll try a little salt and water soak after that. All I need now is a little lettuce and tomato and I can make a salad!!
