I'm rather new to RDA and been having some serious trouble with my IGO-L and throat hit. I've tried mircro-coils as well as wrapping coils on silica wick and both have produced this sickening throat hit that leaves me in a coughing fit. I've been using 28g & 32g Kanthal wire and 2mm silica wick. Also tried positioning the air hole directly over the coil as well as away, with no success. I've mainly been using 50/50 12mg juices but also tried a 100% VG at 18mg and both produced this horrible throat hit. Wrapped coils ranging from 1.2-2.2 ohms and still can't find that "wonderful flavor and vapor" that dripping is supposed to produce.

My first micro-coils I pulsed the coil to ensure it was glowing red throughout and then fed the silica wick (which was a pain in the ...). Not sure what else I could be doing wrong or if I should attempt for even higher ohms. I'm getting better flavor production and vapor from cheap clearomizers than I am from this dripper and I'm at a loss. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm new to the Igo-L myself but have lots of great experience with building coils for my Reo. My first build for Igo-L was with 30 gauge (2.2) and organic cotton ball. When I was running it above 4.5, I too had that yucky burning taste. I'm running a dessert flavor (50/50) 12 mg. since I turned my Provari down to 4.1 or 4.2. Excellent! Maybe a bit less power? Hope this helps.

Here is the current build I have on it. It registers at around 1.8 ohms. photo 1.jpgphoto 2.jpg

I gave up on silica and now use Walgreen organic cotton balls for wick.

My suggestions would be:

- Make your coils using a drill bit - I use 1 1/16". You don't have to worry about spacing between the coils just yet. A coil with spaces will function fine. If you want a tight micro coil, that's fine but I would first focus on building something that gives you a nice smooth vape.

- Use cotton wicks.

- Keep the coil low to the deck - more on that below.

I wrap the coil around the drill bit and leave the bit in the coil and mount it to the Igo. Tighten the screws while holding the coil/bit down on the edge of the deck, and the bottom of the coil should be about even with the upper edge of the deck when you remove the drill bit. I then wick with cotton and never have a problem with throat hit.

My last bit of advice is to go to youtube and search for "cotton rebuild" and watch some videos. It's really about a 5-minute job once you see some videos.

Good luck.

Bought some organic cotton balls (boiled and waiting for them to dry) as well as a 1/16 drill bit. I'll post some updated pics/information when I build these new coils. Thanks for the advice/help. Cheers!

Please do let us know. I am not very tolerant of a harsh throat hit either, and have been using Igos for a couple of months and they work great for me. No harshness at all, just a nice smooth vape with pretty good flavor and great vapor.

I'm sure you will figure it out. :)

And one more thing - boiling the cotton seems like a personal preference, but with organic cotton I don't bother.

Thanks for the tip! I was getting a harsh hit dropped the coil as you suggested and a vast improvement :toast: Found by sweet spot is just above the deck.
